ImpactIsrael (formerly American Friends of Yemin Orde) is the U.S. philanthropic partner of Yemin Orde Youth Village and Village Way Educational Initiatives in Israel. From a start with a single, uniquely effective youth village, these programs together transform immigrant and at-risk youth in Israel into productive members of Israeli society through value-driven education and support.
This is a special opportunity for the next Executive Director of ImpactIsrael to be the principal architect of its development program and leverage the organization’s stellar achievements and reputation to ensure the financial resources to support future generations of youth at risk in Israel.ImpactIsrael’s leadership is deeply committed to its fundraising success and intends to grow its resources and reach to become the primary solution to problems of youth at risk in Israel.
Located on a 77-acre campus in the Carmel Mountains, Yemin Orde Youth Village was founded in 1953 as a safe haven for immigrant children orphaned by the Holocaust. Since then, Yemin Orde has rescued and redeemed the lives of over 5,000 at-risk and immigrant youth from around the world through an educational methodology known as Derech Kfar, or “The Village Way.” The Village Way enables youth to refocus their energies from daily struggle and survival to achieving success by embracing the concepts of Tikkun Olam (healing the world, charity) and Tikkun HaLev (healing the heart), and envisions graduates as self-reliant adults and educated participants in the workforce, instilled with a sense of social responsibility. Studies show that, on average, Yemin Orde Village graduates match and often exceed Israel’s norms for education, income, family stability, community service, and happiness. As a result of its success, The Village Way has now become a part of the curriculum at several universities and teaching colleges within Israel.
The Yemin Orde Youth Village is currently home to 450 youth representing more than 20 countries of origin. The Village delivers an all-encompassing, 24/7, school and home environment, providing each student with the individual, peer and familial support needed to succeed. Among Village graduates are a member of Israel’s Knesset, the mayor of a major Israeli city, and many elite members of the IDF.
In 2006, The Village Way Educational Initiatives (VWEI) was established to scale the unique educational methodology developed at the Yemin Orde Youth Village to deliver educational solutions that positively impact at-risk youth, families, and communities throughout Israel. VWEI works to transform struggling high schools, other youth villages and residential communities for at-risk youth, allowing educators to develop concrete solutions to apply in the field and help the youth in their care realize their dreams. In addition, VWEI has developed and operates three distinct residential pre-army gap-year leadership programs and provides training for IDF leaders, Border Police and Ofek Juvenile Prison staff.
To date, VWEI has partnered with 60 distinct educational communities, over 2,700 educators and 25,000 at-risk youth across Israeli society: religious and non-religious; Jews, Arabs, Druze and Bedouin. By 2026, VWEI’s goal is to partner with 91 educational communities in Israel, nearly doubling the number of educators to 4,100 and bringing the total number of at-risk youth impacted by The Village Way to over 55,000.
Taken together, Yemin Orde Youth Village and Village Way Educational Initiatives help Israel’s at-risk youth advance from “Survival to Leadership” with an innovative and unique educational methodology that reaches across all boundaries to support youth of all colors and countries of origin.
