Director of Support Services

SSDS Bergen Mission statement: Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is a warm, inclusive Jewish day school that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in general and Judaic studies.

The Director of Support Services has a primary responsibility for demonstrating and implementing the core values of SSDS in order to ensure that a carefully planned learning environment exists so every student can reach their potential. In this job, the DoSS will have the responsibility for working closely with the Educational Leadership Team, teachers and Support Services team, in order to build a clearly communicated learning framework for each student. In this role, on-going and proactive partnership with teachers will be essential to success, and coordinating communication between students, parents and teachers is of the utmost importance. The DoSS reports to the Director of Education and is a key member of the Leadership Team of the school.

Supporting student academic needs
a. Collaborate and guide teachers to build and implement student learning plans to enable success
b. Assess current support structures and work with Educational Leadership Team to develop integrated dashboard for ongoing tracking of student achievement to be shared by entire team (parents, teachers, outside providers, support team) for all students
c. Partnering with parents/outside providers
d. Develop and implement communication schedule and expectation of follow up and follow through with team

2. Supervision of SSDS Learning Specialist team
a. Ongoing evaluation and assessment of the work of each member of the special services team including building mechanisms for accountability, strategies for developing both individual and team growth
b. Provide on-going development of skills for special services team

3. Ongoing learning and leadership for faculty and staff
a. In partnership with the Educational Leadership Team and teachers bring integrated educational approaches to teachers to enhance and grow teacher ability to differentiate in the classroom to improve student learning
b. Partnership with faculty to brainstorm broadened approaches to meeting different needs
c. Ongoing conversations and student assessment with classroom teachers to identify individual student needs

4. External partnerships
a. Liaise with Bergen County/New Milford special services to ensure maximum benefit from all available resources
b. Liaise with Bergen County/New Milford to guide parents and teachers through evaluation/iep/support services resource process

5. Admissions
a. Work in close partnership with perspective families and admissions department to determine appropriate fit for SSDS Bergen
b. Develop guidelines with admissions and Leadership Team to determine capacity of school to be able to meet each student’s needs prior to admissions

Skills and Experiences:

Outstanding Communication skills – we are looking for a proactive communicator with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, specifically the ability to articulate expectations clearly and compassionately while prioritizing transparency

Exceptional attention to detail—the DoSS must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure that follow through is timely and consistent

Experience working closely with families - to assist the development of their children while bringing in teachers, partners and building and streamlining action plans

Supervision of team(s)—experience with building and assessing individual and team goals. Experience with helping team members to grow through feedback, coaching and accountability

Strong observation skills - able to carefully and kindly observe students and in conjunction with their teachers to help identify patterns of behavior

Deep belief in the abilities of all children and their capacity to be their best
