Executive Director

The Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana is seeking a motivated, energetic candidate for the position of Executive Director to lead our team of dedicated professionals and volunteers. Our Federation is located 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. We provide services and programs to our six member congregations spanning three counties along the south shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. K'ton Ton, JCY summer camp, Adult Friendship Club, and the Manna Cabana food pantry are examples of how we reach out to people of all ages and backgrounds. We are a community with a big heart. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, consummate team player, and skilled fundraiser.


Position Responsibilities

General Duties
• Act as spokesperson for the organization
• Execute Board approved policies
• Direct and oversee short and long term strategic plans
• Maintain a competent and effective managerial staff
• Provide leadership to organization personnel through effective objective setting, delegation and communication
• Conduct staff meetings to discuss pertinent information
• Coordinate and direct employees
• Oversee office procedures, outlining specific duties and area responsibilities
• Ensure that job descriptions are current
• Conduct performance appraisals as required
• Formulate and implement corrective action as needed

Administration
• Ensure administrative staff remains current to organization business and Board directives/approvals that affect their functions and areas of responsibility
• Work with the Board of Directors on governance policy issues by providing support and initiating approved recommendations or actions
• Recommend to the Board changes to policies and procedures that would improve the organization
• Maintain an effective and cost efficient office environment
• Develop, maintain, and update job descriptions pertinent to the organization
• Determine staff training and/or equipment needs of clerical and administrative employees
• Submit all information, reports, and records as requested or required by law to appropriate government officials or the Board of Directors
• Develop and implement operational plans, policies, and goals that further strategic objectives

Financial
• Maintain full awareness of the complete financial, statistical, and accounting records of the organization
• Ensure that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved and the control of operating expenses within budget
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting
• Ensure the preparation of the annual budget for Board approval

Campaign
• Responsible for overseeing all functions of donor database management
• Oversee timely donor acknowledgment, including thank you letters
• Cultivate and solicit major gift donors for annual campaign
• Implement on-going personal/written/phone contact with major donors and potential donors
• Develop an annual campaign strategy with timeline and target dates for all campaign tasks, activities and events
• Develop/oversee annual mail solicitation campaign
• Work with volunteers on Annual Campaign
