1. In partnership with the Executive Director, VP of Philanthropy, and the Philanthropy Committee, develop the synagogue philanthropy strategy and development plan. Execute the plan to achieve annual and long-term philanthropy goals.
2. Assess the congregational prospects for major gifts donors and donor engagement
3. Develop relationships with congregants, and steward donors and potential donors.
4. Prepare written proposals, gift agreements, and other documents as needed to define, secure, steward, and document major gifts.
5. Plan and execute congregational mailings for annual financial commitment and additional donations.
6. Work closely with, and support clergy on their donor engagement and gift solicitation activities.
7. Manage gift acknowledgements process for all gifts, ensuring timely and appropriate follow-up.
8. Together with the Executive Director, VP of Philanthropy, and the Philanthropy Committee, plan and execute campaign to honor senior rabbi in advance of his retirement. Support the senior rabbi in raising significant funds toward campaign goal.
9. Identify and assess grant opportunities and collaborate with staff and lay leaders in completing grant applications.
10. Manage congregant database and email lists to ensure accuracy. This includes giving history, areas of interest, congregant life cycle events, etc.
11. Work closely with Finance Manager and VP of Finance to define and streamline processes to report on philanthropic revenue toward goal by gift type, as well as maintain philanthropy metrics. Report on year-over-year giving and other measures of philanthropic performance as requested.
12. Collaborate closely with the Director of Engagement to foster greater congregant engagement, sharing information and opportunities to enhance relationships and strengthen connections between congregants and with the synagogue.
13. Help educate and foster a culture of giving within the congregation.
14. Manage and execute other philanthropy projects as opportunities arise.
• Bachelor’s degree
• 3-5 years’ experience in fundraising with demonstrated success working directly with donors and prospective donors, and ready to step-up to the next level
• Comfort working with a diverse congregation and multiple levels of donors
• Experience in the non-profit sector preferred
• Strong technology proficiency, with skills including Microsoft Office and Google platform. Experience with, and knowledge of databases and database management, Experience with ShulCloud preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills are essential
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a highly matrixed and collaborative environment, with a “can-do” willingness to roll up sleeves and get work done, from the big picture to the details
