Clergy Administrative Assistant

Touro Synagogue, a Reform Jewish synagogue in Uptown New Orleans, is currently looking for an individual that can work full-time in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment. We are a small staff that serves our 600+ family congregation. This individual must be generous, intuitive, detail-oriented, team-spirited, possess excellent computer skills, and have the ability to be flexible and multi-task in support of the clergy and professional staff.

Qualifications and Skills:
Ability to anticipate and use intuition, judgment, organizational knowledge to meet the clergy’s needs
Motivated and rewarded by helping others perform at the highest levels in service to the organization and its mission
Ability to create and sustain strong working relationships; including the ability to effectively partner with high-level outside influencers and to collaborate with staff at all levels
Strong service-related people skills and problem-solving skills as this position is generally the first contact and has significant responsibility in representing Touro and its clergy
Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work both independently and with a team
Approachable with the ability to maintain positive relationships at all levels of the organization
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Ability to work with people in crisis and highly emotional contexts
Very strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and major social media platforms
Knowledge of the Jewish community, Jewish customs and rituals and synagogue life is preferred
Ability to maintain composure, maintain confidentiality, and exercise good judgment even under extreme pressure
Ability to work occasionally on nights and weekends as need (with advance notice)


Responsibilities:
Answer phones and doors, and check messages
Manage clergy calendars, schedule appointments
Manage congregant data and membership records
Support the pastoral services
Keep files and documents organized and accessible
Write and distribute correspondence and letters
Copy materials for events, programs, religious school, and daily functions
Manage synagogue registration processes and paperwork
Oversee office supply inventory and ordering
Manage all mailing lists and incoming/outgoing mail
Support the religious school as needed
Other duties as assigned

Experience:
At least two years work experience working in administration, event support, communications, or data management

Hours:
Sunday mornings, Tuesday - Friday (Mondays and Saturdays off)
Summer schedule when Religious School is not in session: Monday - Friday
Compensation: 36k+ (DOE)
