We are one of Boston's oldest and most respected philanthropic organizations and we are currently seeking a Accounting Associate, Philanthropic Asset Services.

The Accounting Associate is responsible for administration and processing the weekly check run for the Philanthropic Asset Services (PAS) team. This includes Donor Advised Funds, Passport to Israel funds, Endowments, and the Jewish Community Endowment Pool. The SA also records the distribution activity to the general ledger and assists with year-end audit. The Accounting Associate will also be responsible for updating CJP’s Israel Bond inventory.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
o
• Check run responsibilities
o Monitors the PAS email addresses and ensures that team members respond to inquiries and requests.
o Processes the weekly check run: reviews grant recommendations submitted by donors; researches new charities to verify the eligibility of the charity to receive grants from our program; reviews grant letters and copies of those letters that are sent to donors for accuracy and completeness; updates the check log with printed checks; follows up on checks that have not been cashed & takes appropriate action; and records the activity to the general ledger on a weekly basis.
o Prepares information about rejected grants for the Committee on Development.
o Reviews tickler file and distribute content to relevant person for follow-up.
• State of Israel bonds
o Administers all activity associated with CJP’s Israel Bond portfolio including maintaining and reconciling Israel Bond inventory; facilitates transfers of bonds to CJP from donors; coordinates the recording of associated gift revenue and the preparation of donor acknowledgement letters for tax purposes.
• Administrative responsibilities
o Provides administrative support: filing (mostly e-filing), copying/scanning checks, running reports, etc.
o Opens, sorts and acts on daily mail.
o Maintains DAF and Endowment databases for signatory information, address updates, etc., as well as charities receiving grants from CJP.
o Provides customer service support and follow-up for donors as needed.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: BA/BS degree preferred. Preference to degrees in accounting or related business.

Experience: 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Logic, problem solving and analytical skills.
• Aptitude for detail and commitment to accuracy and follow through.
• Very organized, able to independently manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong customer service orientation with the ability to be pleasant and tactful under all circumstances.
• Proficient in Windows environment, including MS Word, Excel, and Internet
• Strong interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
