Marketing and Communications Manager

Job Summary/Objective

Oheb Shalom is an egalitarian, inclusive, diverse and multi-generational 315+ member congregation in South Orange NJ. Although Oheb Shalom has a rich, vibrant history, being one of the oldest conservative synagogues in the Northeast, it is known for being progressive and embracing Jewish tradition in the 21st century. This summer, we are thrilled to be welcoming new clergy – Rabbi Abigail Treu, Senior Rabbi and Cantor Eliana Kissner, recent JTS graduate and believe we are poised for tremendous growth.

Oheb Shalom is seeking to hire a Marketing and Communications Manager to promote, drive awareness and encourage engagement of our wonderful congregation including our religious school and Mickey Fried Preschool as well as, key events and initiatives. The Marketing and Communications Manager would be responsible for developing the overarching communications strategy, execution and implementation for all internal and external communication initiatives on key channels such as website, CRM, social media, brochures, PR etc. The Marketing and Communications Manager will assess current communications platform/tools infrastructure and make recommendations to drive further efficiencies and collaboration. The Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director of Oheb Shalom and will work collaboratively with the professional staff, clergy, lay leadership and programming committees. This position may require some weekends, evenings and flexibility in work schedule hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with Clergy, Staff and Lay Leadership as applicable to:
• Establish congregation’s communications strategy, creative direction, implementation plan and metrics for success
• Create and manage key communication materials such as weekly e-blasts/newsletters, text messages, program guides, membership directory, Annual Report, videos, etc
• Develop social media strategy, manage ongoing social media efforts and create engaging posts on Oheb Shalom owned channels (e.g Facebook, Instagram, etc) and track engagement as appropriate
• Coordinate with committees on event calendar and create program-specific communications plans and assets that will encourage specific audiences to respond/participate
• Maintain Oheb Shalom’s website to ensure the information is current, accurate and engaging and accurately reflects Oheb Shalom’s mission and value
• Implement and utilize software programs to help with automation and collaboration of congregational communications
• Manage communications budget to ensure fiscal responsibility with regard to advertising and promotional items
• Ensure regular contact with media (Jewish and secular) for coverage of events and programs and/or arrange for and monitor interviews for all media requests, and track press coverage
• Participate in key meetings, including weekly staff meetings to be informed of leadership priorities and decisions and provide insight and guidance with respect to communications issues and needs
Qualities and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of work experience in marketing, communications/PR with strong creative experience in social media, web content management, graphic design and CRM
• Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite [InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop] Microsoft Office 365 applications. Experience using Shul Cloud and HTML a plus as well as a love of learning new software and better ways to accomplish tasks.
• Understanding and experience in working with volunteers in a not-for-profit institution
