Operations Director

Camp Young Judaea Midwest is a place where we take care of each other. Located in central Wisconsin, CYJ Midwest just celebrated its 50th anniversary of offering exceptional Jewish camp experiences for thousands of campers. CYJ focuses on an individualized approach while teaching campers to work in a group setting that fosters mutual respect, friendship, leadership and development.

CYJ Midwest is looking to hire an Operations Director (OD), who will partner with the Executive Director (ED) to set the organizational operations management. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficiency of the organization, ensuring the smooth management of internal functions such as facilities management, food service, operations, purchasing and technology. The OD reports to the Executive Director and is a key member of the leadership team alongside the Camp Life Director (CLD).

Year Round Key Responsibilities

Site Operations: Serve as the senior leader to oversee the management of our 80-acre property year round, including oversight facility compliance and supervision of maintenance staff

Food Service: Oversee the entire food service operation including the hiring and supervision of seasonal kitchen staff in coordination with the seasonal Kitchen Manager

Office Management and Technology: Oversee the purchase, implementation and upkeep for all offices and its technology

Administration: Supervise the implementation of participant registration, billing and payment plans, financial aid and participants forms review with Marketing & Communications Manager

Health Care and Medical: Work closely with ED to oversee the health center including hiring and supervising camp doctors/nurses

Risk Management: Work closely with CLD and ED to develop safety and security protocols, maintaining contact with local and state law enforcement and overseeing all emergency procedures

Purchasing: Coordinate the purchase of supplies for various program areas and site needs

Transportation: Coordinate all summer transportation needs for the organization

Construction Management: Coordinate and manage small construction projects needed on site

Special Programs: Coordinate from start to finish off season programs (including rentals and family camp) on the property

Business Management: Assist when necessary in financial records, bookkeeping, budgeting and payroll; Create and manage parts of the Camp Young Judaea Midwest budget and provide regular budget projections as required

The ideal candidate:
- Has experience in nonprofit management role with food service, facilities and logistics familiarity
- Has familiarity with Jewish organizations
- Highly proficient with standard Office, Google Drive and Quickbooks
- Commitment to customer service
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Ability to manage projects and team members while managing multiple projects at a time
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and strong work ethic
- Willingness to take on any necessary roles and responsibilities to accomplish a task

Additional Requirements
- Must have the ability to spend ~12 weeks each summer in residence on Wisconsin property
- Must be able to spend several days per month on Wisconsin site working to manage the property
- Ability to travel occasionally and work some weekend and evening events
- Must be 21+, safe driving record and ability to pass clean criminal background check

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: Range of $60,000 to $75,000 based on credentials and experience
Benefits: 100% covered health insurance, cell phone reimbursement, paid time off (vacation, sick and Jewish/secular holidays), professional development stipend, flexible work hours during the off season
If candidate is interested in living on site year round, salary will be reduced to reflect the value of housing provided
