Synagogue Executive Director @ Kol Shalom

Synagogue Executive Director

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Kol Shalom Congregation Rockville, MD 20850

About Kol Shalom

In the words of our Rabbi, “Kol Shalom is a unique congregation. We are a combination of warmth and sophistication, community and intellect, tradition and worldly achievement.”

Kol Shalom is a vital community of 250 household units.  We are a warm and caring congregation with a great combination of intellect and humor.  Our services are highly participatory and musical, and our community offerings emphasize social justice and Tikkun Olam.  We celebrate together, support each other in times of difficulty, and have built lifelong bonds of friendship.

We are egalitarian and welcome members of diverse backgrounds.  We are committed to traditional Conservative Jewish observance while warmly welcoming dual-faith families, LGBTQ individuals, people from any racial and ethnic background, and others interested in learning about Judaism.   We encourage participation at a level that meets each member’s individual background and interests.  As a community, we love to grow and learn and strive to be knowledgeable, active, and devoted Jews.

The Role of Executive Director at Kol Shalom
We see our Executive Director as passionate about the work and the community, who loves the challenge of juggling diverse responsibilities, an ideas person who welcomes the thoughts of others, an effective problem-solver and a people person who takes on new challenges with enthusiasm and rigorous attention to detail.

As Executive Director, you will be responsible for the smooth running of all synagogue operations.  You are core to the synagogue’s success and to its long-term growth.  Working in collaboration with our engaged board of directors, members, clergy and staff, you will be an innovative and energetic leader with a central role in membership, finance, programs, building operations, and fundraising.

We are looking for someone who wants a long-term leadership position, and who enjoys being embraced by the community as much as working with it.  You will be the first person many new members will meet, and thus will be essential in membership recruitment and development.  Knowing and reaching out to members is indispensable to who we are as a congregation. In partnership with the rabbi and synagogue leadership, we want you to be a central part of that effort.

You will be key to setting the tone for the rest of the staff, helping to build sustainable operating systems and managing our community and programs. You will be responsible to the Rabbi and the President of the Congregation on a day-to-day basis, and to the Board of Directors through monthly meetings.
