Kol Shalom is a vital community of 250 household units. We are a warm and caring congregation with a great combination of intellect and humor. The Role of Executive Director at Kol Shalom
We see our Executive Director as passionate about the work and the community, who loves the challenge of juggling diverse responsibilities, an ideas person who welcomes the thoughts of others, an effective problem-solver and a people person who takes on new challenges with enthusiasm and rigorous attention to detail.
As Executive Director, you will be responsible for the smooth running of all synagogue operations. You are core to the synagogue’s success and to its long-term growth. Working in collaboration with our engaged board of directors, members, clergy and staff, you will be an innovative and energetic leader with a central role in membership, finance, programs, building operations, and fundraising.
We are looking for someone who wants a long-term leadership position, and who enjoys being embraced by the community as much as working with it. You will be the first person many new members will meet, and thus will be essential in membership recruitment and development. Knowing and reaching out to members is indispensable to who we are as a congregation. In partnership with the rabbi and synagogue leadership, we want you to be a central part of that effort.
You will be key to setting the tone for the rest of the staff, helping to build sustainable operating systems and managing our community and programs. You will be responsible to the Rabbi and the President of the Congregation on a day-to-day basis, and to the Board of Directors through monthly meetings.
-- Cultivate and nurture relationships within the congregation and with the larger Jewish community.
-- In partnership with the rabbi, other professional staff and lay leadership, develop strategies for community connection, engagement, and membership expansion and retention
-- Ensure accuracy of membership information and records
-- Be responsive and enthusiastic about inquiries about membership
-- Address congregational concerns in a timely manner
-- Collaborate with the rabbi, other professional staff, and lay leadership to define and meet Kol Shalom’s mission, vision, and values
-- Anticipate and address issues and concerns in collaboration with the rabbi, other professional staff, and lay leadership
Administration of the Synagogue
-- Manage the day-to-day operations of the synagogue
-- Develop and implement policies, best practices, and procedures
-- Promote effective information sharing among the rabbi, other professional staff, and lay leadership
-- Develop and oversee all communication platforms and strategies including website content
-- Vet and manage relationships with vendors and contractors
-- Manage and develop the synagogue’s professional staff and promote a highly effective and collaborative work culture
-- Manage facilities personnel, vendors, and contractors, including outside professional experts such as accountants and auditors
-- Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, empowerment, integrity, and fun
-- Manage all employee benefit programs and policies; ensure compliance with current federal and state labor law
Financial Management and Fundraising
-- Ensure sound financial management for the synagogue; use appropriate financial systems and controls to ensure legal compliance, integrity, and transparency; communicate effectively with lay leadership about the synagogue’s finances
-- Oversee all financial operations
-- Partner with lay leadership and, as appropriate, other professional staff, to create and manage the budget, providing regular reports to the board and raising any concerns and suggestions related to financial management
-- Manage financial personnel and vendors
-- Maintain appropriate insurance
-- Ensure support for all synagogue’s fundraising initiatives and donor stewardship
-- Oversee all aspects of the building operations, ensuring that the building, grounds, and equipment are licensed and maintained
-- Manage facilities personnel, security, vendors, and utility contracts; manage equipment and technology
-- Ensure compliance with inspection and maintenance schedules
-- Manage preventative maintenance, repair, and improvements
-- Stay on top of changes to technology and suggest timely improvements
-- Work closely on any capital improvement plans and other projects relating to the facilities
-- Collaborate with the rabbi, professional staff, and lay leadership in developing and implementing a vision for the effective and cost-effective use of space
Salary and Benefits
