Camp Louise Wellness Team Member

Camp Louise is a resident summer camp for girls, ages 7-17, located in Cascade, MD. Every summer, we host hundreds of young women who participate in a wide variety of activities, like sports, arts, music, outdoors, swimming, cookery, and more. Campers at Louise learn new skills, grow as individuals, challenge themselves, and make friends that last a lifetime. Staff at Louise get the opportunity to make a lasting and significant positive impact on our campers. Camp staff are role models and rock stars in the eyes of our campers.

The wellness team at Camp Louise is comprised of thoughtful and caring individuals with a strong passion for helping kids and young adults succeed and thrive in their environments. Although our goal at camp is providing community members with a plethora of positive experiences, some aspects of living away from home, with large groups of peers, for extended periods, can be challenging and/or overwhelming for some of our campers and staff. Wellness team members work in teams and individually, with single campers, camper groups, and staff members to prepare and assist them in maintaining positive emotional health throughout the summer. Wellness Team Members report to the MESH Director (Mental, Emotional, and Social Health). Clinical Supervision towards advanced licensure is available from a Maryland Board Approved Social Work Supervisor.

Job Functions
1. Assist in pre-camp preparation
a. Attending meetings as requested by the director.
b. Reviewing camper profiles and communicating with and preparing identified individuals for a successful summer experience, including following up with camper physicians as required for mental health needs.
2. Assist and lead staff orientation sessions
a. Lead a session during orientation on a topic of interest.
b. Assist directors as requested.
3. Work with Administrative team to identify campers and staff members who require focus from Wellness Team. With these individuals:
a. Be present throughout camp to observe how these individuals are doing. Answer questions and listen to concerns from counselors, unit leaders, and other staff.
b. Work with Medical, food service, and leadership staff at camp to address concerns.
c. Work with counselors and other staff to teach them how to support camper’s needs.
d. Work with campers and staff to teach coping skills.
e. Communicate with parents and guardians regarding social/emotional needs of identified campers
f. Facilitate communication between campers and therapists as needed.
4. Develop training opportunities for staff to teach about conflict resolution, home missing, disabilities, and intervention/proactive strategies
5. Additional communication areas and documentation
a. Document all relevant interactions with campers and staff
b. Communicate with Director to identify individuals needing therapeutic intervention
c. Complete risk assessments and safety plans, as needed
d. Communicate with families to help prepare campers for camp
e. Work with counselors of these individuals to prepare them to work with their campers
f. Communicate with Medical staff to identify individuals requiring extra support
g. Communicate with other camp leaders as necessary to share needed information to facilitate an individual’s success
6. Other duties as assigned

• Must have significant work experience involving youth.
• Ability to interact with all age levels.
• Must complete a background check.
• Certification of LMSW, LGPC, LCSW-C or LCPC

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Understand the developmental needs of youth.
• Ability to relate to campers and staff in a positive manner.
• Demonstrate supervisory skills and a high level of maturity.
• Understanding that staff member could be called upon at any time, day/night, for issues relating to campers or staff.

Wellness Team Members live onsite, at our beautiful camp, for the duration of the summer season (June 11-August 15). Room and board are provided.

Due to potential Covid restrictions this summer, it is anticipated that camp may operate in a closed bubble. Time off and other self-care opportunities, on property, would be a regular part of your schedule.
