Beth El Temple is searching for a part–time cantorial presence (cantorial student) to join our congregation and be part of our innovative team for several weekends a year and high holidays. This paid internship position at a 300 – family Egalitarian Conservative Congregation in Harrisburg PA is an easy 3 - hour train ride from NY’s Penn Station. We are looking for someone with a deep knowledge of music and Judaism as well as an enthusiasm for prayer leadership. In turn, we will provide professional guidance and hands-on work experience in a vibrant congregational setting.
At Beth El Temple warm and evolving relationships are founded on the religious equality of all genders. Led by our Rabbi, Ariana Capptauber, a recent graduate of JTS, our services follow traditional Conservative standards yet are infused with creative musicality and spirituality. We love singing together (especially when not on zoom), meditating, praying, and learning together. We work to provide a spiritual home for our members of all ages.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
4– 8 Shabbat weekends a year - Negiotable
Provide musical leadership and read Torah for Shabbat services
Lead services on high holidays including Ma’ariv/Kol Nidre, Torah service, and Musaf on both days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
Work closely with our Rabbi to create and lead meaningful prayer experiences throughout Shabbat and Yamim Noraim
Share your enthusiasm for and knowledge of Jewish music
