Arts and Crafts Director

Camp Kingswood is a co-ed Jewish overnight camp located in Bridgton, Maine, for children ages 7-17. The art program at Camp Kingswood includes Arts & Crafts, Ceramics, and Woodshop, and the Art Director oversees the staff and program in all three areas. The Art Director should have expertise and experience in at least one of these activities, and will supervise the staff of all these areas. The Art Director at Camp Kingswood plans and supervises the delivery of activities at Kingswood that are safe, fun, and appropriate for campers' ages and abilities. The Art Director also manages the facilities and equipment in the Arts and Crafts center and wood shop.

Essential Job Functions
- Work with A&C staff (Arts and Crafts, Ceremics, and Woodshop) to write lesson plans that meet camp goals
- Evaluate creative abilities of campers and staff
- Deliver creative art activities
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training
- Supervise A&C staff to provide a safe and high-quality program
- Evaluate A&C staff
- Schedule A&C staff
- Set up Arts & Craft and Woodshop areas prior to and during staff training
- Teach and monitor proper use of equipment
- Conduct initial and end-of-season inventory of equipment
- Monitor equipment, and check or file for repair
- Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety and cleanliness
- Submit orders for supplies and equipment when needed
- Survey areas daily to keep the area free of hazards and debris
- Work with Camp Leadership and A&C staff to develop program curriculum, awards program, and leadership programs
- Assist in planning special events in or near the Arts & Crafts center and woodshop
- Participate in staff meetings
- Participate in all camp activities, planning and leading those assigned
- The Art Director also serves on the Camp Leadership Team, collaborating with other supervisors to lead overall camp programming

The Art Director will have direct relationships with the maintenance staff in terms of facility and equipment needs. The Art Director will also collaborate with other key area heads at camp, such as sports, waterfront, and adventure. In this supervisory role, the Art Director also plays a role in being responsible for the well-being of the staff they supervise, and is responsible for building a happy and collaborative team environment, and positive and fun culture in the Arts & Crafts Center for campers and staff. The Art Director will work closely with the Health Center staff and Emergency Response Team in times of emergency management and care.

- Experience in residential camping
- Certification in First Aid and CPR preferred
- Experience in development and delivery of art programs
- Experience in supervising others
- Ability to schedule staff
- Desire and ability to work with children
- Ability to observe, assess, and redirect as needed campers' behavior
- Ability to observe, assess, and redirect staff members' behavior
