Unit Head

Camp Kingswood is a co-ed Jewish overnight camp located in Bridgton, Maine, for campers ages 7-17. Unit Heads are responsible for planning and implementing activities, and the general safety and happiness of campers. Supervising a team of General Counselors, Unit Heads guide staff and campers in their personal growth, facilitate relationships and bunk/unit dynamics, and serve as role models and leaders for the entire camp community.

Essential Job Functions
- Be tuned into each specific campers’ needs, and work with bunk counselors to assist campers when challenges arise
- Be a positive and enthusiastic source of encouragement for your staff and campers
- Make sure your campers are properly supervised by your staff members at all times
- Help create and implement safety plans
- Schedule general counselors’ daily activity schedules to assure that campers are supported
- Support campers and staff participating in their assigned activities
- Ensure that all campers in your unit are receiving appropriate attention and care
- Coach staff members in basic youth development principles to work with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth
- Be aware of equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance is adhered to
- Be a role model in your professionalism, maturity, and respect for camp policies
- Participate as a member of the camp staff to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp functions and activities
- Communicate with parents before and during camp about camper progress
- Lead weekly unit meetings for your campers and staff
- Work with Camp Leadership and your general counselors to develop program, curriculum, awards, and leadership initiatives for your unit
- Participate in staff meetings
- Assist in planning and creating staff training
- Unit Heads also serve as members of the Camp Leadership Team, collaborating with other leadership team members to plan and implement all camp activities
- Facilitate check-ins with the general counselors you manage
- Provide feedback and evaluation to the general counselors you manage

Relationships
Unit Heads are supervised by the Assistant Director. Unit Heads are the supervisors for the General Counselors that live with your campers. Unit Heads will also collaborate with other key area heads at camp, such as sports, waterfront, and adventure. In this supervisory role, the Unit Heads plays a role in being responsible for the well-being of the staff they supervise, and is responsible for building a happy and collaborative team environment, and positive and fun culture in their units for campers and staff. Unit Heads will work closely with the Health Center staff and Emergency Response Team in times of emergency management and care. Unit Heads also represent the camp to parents and families, in collaboration with the Directors.

Qualifications
- Experience successfully and happily working with children
- Experience successfully and happily supervising others as part of a team
- Must be at least 21 years old
- A positive, happy, patient, and collaborative nature
- Experience planning and implementing activities for groups, or experiences utilizing similar skills
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of campers and staff
- Ability to observe and assess camper and staff behavior, and provide redirection as needed
- Ability to give and receive feedback
- Leadership experience in a residential camp setting preferred
