UJA-Federation of New York is hiring for a full-time paid Summer Research position for graduate students or students currently enrolled in a Doctoral program. We are seeking a Summer Research Assistant with strong analytical skills to join the Impact & Performance Assessment Department. The Summer Research Assistant will assist with the evaluation of the Covid-19 Jewish Impact Study and should be competent in data entry and data analysis using SPSS, STATA or another statistical software package, and formulating tables and figures from data in excel.
The Covid-19 Jewish Impact Study will be the prime source of information about Jewish households and their experiences and struggles during the pandemic. Data are currently being collected online, by phone, and through hardcopy questionnaires from 3,500 New York Area adults in Jewish households, and will provide valuable information on employment, poverty, mental health, substance abuse and many more content areas. These data will be used by UJA and its partner organizations to direct aid to the people and communities who need it most. Data collection ends mid-May, and results from the study need to be shared out by end of June.
This is a summer-time fixed-term appointment. The position start date is May 17 and will run through the late summer. Successful candidates may have the option to work remotely. Research assistants will be paid $30.00 per hour.

Cleaning, coding, merging, and preparing data files for analysis using R, SPSS, STATA, or another statistical software package
Quantitative analysis, carrying out descriptive and/or multivariate statistical analysis that will feed into our reports and an interactive data dissemination tool
Synthesizing and interpreting findings for a broad audience
Advanced degree in demography, sociology, economy, data science, geography, urban planning, or other related fields
Working toward a Ph.D. in process is highly preferred
1-3 years of experience in a Data Analyst role
Demonstrated experience manipulating and analyzing datasets
Qualifications and Competencies:
Strong quantitative and statistical skills
Enthusiasm for research and intellectual curiosity
Facility with R, SPSS, STATA, or another statistical software package
Access to statistical software package is preferred
Experience applying person-level weights
Familiarity with QGIS/GIS is beneficial, but not necessary
Adept at balancing numerous tasks simultaneously and meeting tight deadlines
