Part-time Jewish Religious School Teacher

Our Long Island Conservative synagogue (USCJ) in western Suffolk County is looking for a warm, knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic part-time Religious School Teacher. Our mission is to provide an exceptional education that empowers children to be confident, wise, compassionate, and committed to Jewish life-long learning and community engagement. S/he will be familiar with the Conservative Jewish community and Judaic studies curriculum progression from early childhood through post-B’nai Mitzvah education. Our curriculum includes basic Judaism, Bible, holidays, Israel, Jewish history, Jewish values, and (in middle school grades) introduction to the Holocaust.

Responsibilities include:
- Instill a love and joy of being Jewish through hands-on, age-appropriate activities
- Teach to the curriculum
- Develop and implement creative, experiential, innovative learning experience
- Apply developmentally-appropriate approaches for classroom management to create a respectful, engaging and vibrant classroom learning community
- Work to develop curriculum with the support of the Religious School Director, Rabbi, and Religious School Committee
- Create and maintain positive partnerships with students and families through regular communication
- Participate in staff meetings, parent teacher conferences, and professional development opportunities
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director

Qualifications include:
- Bachelors Degree (at a minimum)
- Teaching Certification preferred
- Elementary or middle school teaching experience in a Jewish or secular educational setting
- Be collaborative in nature and work well in teams to design curriculum, holiday programming, and school rituals
- Proven track record of engaging with parents and families
- Excellent writing skills
