Temple Beth Israel in Plattsburgh, NY is seeking a cantorial student or cantorial soloist to serve our worshipers and collaborate with our rabbi for our 2021 High Holy Days observance.
We are a small Reform Jewish congregation comprised of 70 families; our temple is a vital resource for Jewish life in Northeastern New York. We welcome diverse traditions and lifestyles into our congregational family and offer a meaningful Jewish experience to all who enter our doors. We have a full-time spiritual leader, Rabbi David Kominsky.
We are in search of a cantorial soloist or cantorial student with a pleasant singing voice whose cantorial style invites congregants to participate in the service. We will be using a combination of Shabbat melodies, traditional High Holiday melodies, and a few more contemporary choices without any accompaniment of musical instruments. Familiarity with Reform services is a plus; our services are from Mishkan Hanefesh, the new Reform machzur.
We are excited to finally be worshipping together again in our sanctuary. As such, to protect all of our congregants, we will only accept applications from individuals who are fully vaccinated.
Time required for the following High Holy Days services:
• September 6: Erev Rosh Hashanah,
• September 7: Rosh Hashanah: Morning service followed by Tashlich
• September 15: Kol Nidre,
• September 16: Yom Kippur morning, afternoon, and evening services, including Yiskor.
Compensation is commensurate with experience: $ 3,000 to $ 5,500.
The compensation will be considered all-inclusive and will include, but is not limited to, travel and lodging expenses.
