We are actively seeking multiple part-time teachers who are warm, enthusiastic, and experienced, with a knowledge of varying learning styles to join our Religious School team for the 2021-2022 school year. Ideal candidates should be familiar with Jewish values, ethics, holidays, traditions, history, Bible, and reading Hebrew. Our Religious School families feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as we embark upon building a new framework for the Jewish education of our children in Youngstown.

Positions are available teaching various multi-age classes, pre-K through grade 7.

Classes meet on Sundays (9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) and Wednesdays (4:30-6:00 p.m.) September through May at Congregation Rodef Sholom. Teachers must be available in August for training. We plan on having in-person classes for the 2021-2022 school year, but we must also be flexible based on guidelines and advisories related to COVID-19.

To be a positive role model and influence to students in an atmosphere where the teaching of our Judaic values is the priority
To implement the values-based curriculum and facilitate classroom learning based on ShalomLearning, a Jewish values-based digital curriculum
To implement the decoding/Hebrew prayer book reading program of JLearn Hub (for those teaching Hebrew)
To use a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to the wide variety of learning styles inherent in a classroom and be open to experiential and other non-traditional approaches
To play a vital role as a member of the Religious School team by collaborating with the Rabbi, Education Coordinator, and other staff members
To communicate with parents on a regular basis regarding their child’s progress
To attend occasional Shabbat services and community events that are school related
To participate in training and professional development sessions as provided by ShalomLearning and as requested by the Religious School leadership

Preschool, elementary, or middle school teaching experience in a Jewish or secular setting strongly preferred
An understanding of Jewish values
An ability to manage a classroom environment with children of mixed ages and abilities
A knowledge of Hebrew prayer book reading with decoding, for those assisting with teaching Hebrew
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience with appropriate technology, including virtual learning platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Google Tools

Job Details
Part-time; contract
Salary: $30 an hour, including paid prep time
An employment background check will be required.
Our school follows stringent COVID safety procedures. We plan to have classes meet on-site with social distancing in place, along with health and safety protocols. All persons hired will be expected to follow all health and safety protocols established by the school and synagogue.
