Ann Spak Thal Hebrew School welcomes students of diverse backgrounds and approaches to Judaism. We guide students through a comprehensive study of what it means to be a Jew in the 21st century. From biblical analysis to B’nai Mitzvah preparation, spiritual reflection to engagement with prayer and song, ethical debates to Israeli dancing, historic holidays to current events through a Jewish lens, trips and special guests to Jewish culinary exploration in our kitchen – we offer a Jewish journey like no other!
Our students come together from various backgrounds to pursue a Jewish journey on which they learn about history and modern milestones, roots and traditions, language and literature, and ethics and values. Our dynamic teachers encourage students to express themselves in different ways and to ask questions and seek answers through a variety of tools.

Positions Available:
Our Hebrew High School is seeking a teacher who enjoys working with teens from 8th-12th grades. Our teachers are dynamic Jewish educators that are excited about helping to inspire and excite a new generation of Jewish learners.

Teacher working with students in grades 8-12 will work Saturdays from 10:00-12:00. There are additional Sundays that will be scheduled for excursions and other on-site learning experiences that are currently being scheduled.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Implements class’ curriculum by designing lesson plans with activities that engage children, appeal to multiple intelligences, and acknowledge individual learning differences, and submits these lesson plans at least one week in advance of each corresponding class date.
Uses appropriate instructional strategies and tactics, monitors students’ understanding, evaluates lessons, and adjusts instruction, materials, and/or assessments as necessary in order to optimize students’ learning.
Communicates high standards and expectations to students and makes learning goals clear to them.
Communicates all material resource needs to the Assistant Director of Education for Hebrew School sufficiently in advance.
Maintains accurate and complete student attendance records and reports children’s schedule changes or excessive absences to the Assistant Director of Education for Hebrew School in a timely manner.
Writes and emails monthly “News & Notes” to parents with a summary of recent lessons, activities, and upcoming study units, and writes progress reports in January and May.
Creates a positive Jewish environment that enhances student engagement and learning.
Exemplifies and perpetuates Jewish values and ethics, with a blend of tradition and pluralism.
Models and maintains appropriate expectations for behavior and mutual respect, and procedures for conflict resolution.
Demonstrates a collaborative work style and communicates respectfully and effectively with children, parents, colleagues, administrators, and other synagogue staff.
Is consistently punctual and dependable and maintains a neat and presentable classroom space and closet.
Secures substitute teachers in advance for absences.
Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and professional development opportunities offered by SHS.
And any other duties, as assigned, that are needed to fulfill the mission of the Ann Spak Thal Hebrew School.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of Jewish culture, customs, traditions, history, and Torah.
Awareness of current events and modern societal issues
Working knowledge of Hebrew language including vocabulary and prayer. Fluency is not required but is a plus.
Experience teaching in a Hebrew School, Jewish camp, or youth group is preferred, but not required. We are a dedicated group of teachers who like to help others!
A collaborative work style and ability to work as a team member.

Operations During COVID
Our school has been 100% virtual during the entirety of the COVID-19 Pandemic. As of the date of this posting our plan is to operate in person school next year.

Compensation
Our teachers make between $26 and $36 per hour, commensurate with experience.
