Bookkeeper

HOURS: Part-time – 15-20 hours/week. This position requires that you be on-site during business hours, but the rest of the hours can be determined in consultation with the supervisor.?

The Jewish Community Centre of Sharon, Inc., also known as Temple Israel (“TI”) is located in Sharon, Massachusetts. We are a thriving suburb with a substantial Jewish population midway between Boston and Providence RI. TI is a vibrant Conservative Jewish community of about 540 families with a Jewish religious school and a highly successful and growing preschool.?

ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for candidates who are motivated, experienced, reliable, and self service-oriented professional who will serve as the bookkeeper for the Temple programs and staff. This position oversees the finances for our $1.8M annual operating budget, including payroll, A/P and A/R, payment processing, reporting, and helping to manage fiscal operations for the Temple community. The bookkeeper is responsible for managing aspects of the Temple’s bookkeeping functions, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism, accuracy, and timeliness. Attention to detail is a must. A working knowledge of QuickBooks program, including processing transactions, running reports and troubleshooting is required.




This position would report to the Executive Director, and working closely with our clergy, learning directors, administrators, lay leaders and office staff. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to multi-task, be a creative problem solver and self-starter, show good judgment, and operate in an environment demanding confidentiality. This position will often be handling cash and dealing with sensitive financial matters, as well as balancing staff needs with fiscal integrity.



Task Dimensions and Examples:

Maintaining all the financial records of the Temple including multiple funds, accounts and budgets.

Managing the G/L including preparing and posting journal entries and supporting documents

Tracking and recording payroll, payables and receivables.

Generating accurate monthly reporting including:

Billing statements and reports for Temple’s members

Bank reconciliations for multiple accounts

Fund accounting and reporting

Month and year end closing reports (by the 10th of each month) for review by the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Treasurer, President and outside accountant and others.


Generate accurate weekly reports for the Executive Director including:

Cash on hand

Accounts Receivable

Accounts Payable

Payroll

Managing accounts payable, and processing payments for Temple's vendors

Reconciling the cash balance for multiple accounts on a monthly basis

Preparing monthly budgetary reports and communicating status for all income/expense v. budget lines to Executive Director

ups, holiday supply ordering, etc.?

Managing financial software and database.





Qualifications/Skills:

Bachelor's degree including communication would be helpful

Non-profit experience preferred, but not required

Previous accounting manager or similar experience

High level of proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft programs, including Excel and Outlook.


Excellent written and oral communication skills

Detail-oriented and able to multitask

Flexibility to accept new responsibilities and direction as necessary
