Temple Beth Shalom in Mahopac, NY seeks an Experiential Educator/Team Leader to
partner and co-create a visionary Jewish educational experience for K-7th graders.
There are two components to this position: the first is to create fantastic, engaging
experiential Jewish education two Sundays a month for Religious School students. The
second is oversight of the Religious School, which responded to the pandemic by
redesigning its structure to support its students and the community-at-large. We
currently have 20 3rd-7th graders and 4 K-2nd graders. We are looking to increase
enrollment to keep the religious school program vibrant and innovative.
In 2019, Temple Beth Shalom began the process to develop a visioning group to design
a new Religious School model. That group, called the “2020 and Beyond Task Force”
conducted a series of interviews and research into best practices in Jewish education.
They created curricular guidelines, learning benchmarks, and a new vision for Jewish
supplemental learning. Their work was essential in making the pivot to online learning
during the pandemic when we partnered with Rabbi Dani Eskow and Online Jewish
Learning for Hebrew instruction and curriculum. That partnership was wildly successful
and we will continue it moving forward.
For the 2021-2022 school year, we have created a hybrid model of learning, with
Hebrew and Judaics taught online and fantastic, engaging experiential education
happening two Sundays a month. The goal is to increase the experiential education
component to every Sunday in future years.
