About the Position
The Junior Congregation Leader is responsible for developing and implementing an enriching, age-appropriate, fun, and educational 3-hour Shabbat morning experience for all elementary-aged Religious School and Day School children and families. Innovative, relatable, and well-versed in the Shabbat morning service, they will facilitate programmatic modules that build skills and confidence and that empower children to feel a sense of ownership and investment in learning and leading. The Junior Congregation Leader will collaborate with clergy, staff, and key volunteers to ensure the modules align with Beth Sholom’s overarching family engagement and Jewish education goals. This part-time position requires preparation time in addition to facilitating 10 monthly Shabbat morning experiences and reports to our Director of Program.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develops and implements an enriching, age-appropriate, fun, and educational Shabbat morning experience for all elementary-aged Religious School and Day School children and families
- In consultation with clergy and key staff designs a 10-month curriculum that builds skills and includes both Hebrew and English elements
- With the Family Engagement Specialist, contacts families to promote attending Junior Congregation
- Tracks attendance and provides age-appropriate incentives for consistent participation
- Other responsibilities as assigned

- Well-versed in the Shabbat morning service
- Experience teaching prayers to and leading services with young children
- Respectful of children with all abilities
- Well-organized
- Works collaboratively and independently, with strong follow-through
- Acts with integrity and tact
- Can accompany oneself on a musical instrument, a plus

- A minimum of 3 years in a related position
- Degree in elementary education or Jewish education a plus
