We seek a caring, inspirational, inclusive and versatile part-time religious leader, focused on the precepts of modern Judaism who would be excited to work with an unaffiliated community of diverse backgrounds. Our ideal candidate would seek ways of building our presence in the community and growing our congregation, while participating in wider community affairs. Our religious leader will build relationships across generations and be an advocate for social justice. Adaptability and a willingness to have fun and grow is very important to us.
The Rabbi must be able to serve the various religious, spiritual, educational, and emotional needs of CHSE members. This is an opportunity to foster and expand a congregation that will develop along with you. We will support you and partner with you in strategizing for our long-term success.
CHSE welcomes individuals of all Jewish denominations and people of all stripes. Along with Bethel Community Church of Pottstown (BCCP), its co-religious occupant, we practice tikkun olam for the betterment of the greater community. Our premises include a newly renovated, wheelchair-accessible dedicated sanctuary/social hall space that is housed within a larger church building.
CHSE has a long history, beginning in 1892 with the arrival of Hungarian Jews to Pottstown. We believe many Jews in the greater Pottstown area are unaffiliated with a large percentage of families of multiple faiths. There is great potential to offer a Jewish home to those Jewish community members.
Our will rabbi is expected to:
• Lead our small religious school,
• Run special holiday programs,
• Work with B’nei Mitzvah students (currently 1-2 per year),
• Mentor and counsel conversion candidates and
• Provide bikkur cholim and bereavement support to the membership.
We anticipate about 8-15 hours/week of service to the congregation, with more time anticipated during fall chagim.
