Park Slope Jewish Center seeks a creative, flexible and engaged person who loves Hebrew and working with kids to join our team as a Hebrew Curriculum Support Specialist and Hebrew through Movement Teacher. This part-time position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in helping our program transition back to in-person Hebrew learning, as well as to establish new benchmarks for Hebrew learning.
Ideal candidates will be available on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, 3:00PM - 6:30PM. The remaining 3 hours per week can be done remotely and at the candidate’s convenience. For a strong candidate, it is possible to only be available on Wednesday afternoons, but an expectation of an additional 2 hours of on-site preparations would be expected in place of Tuesdays.
There will be opportunities for experimentation and professional development throughout the year. Each afternoon includes working with small groups of students and/or one-on-one, leading Hebrew through Movement activities, and creating other materials to support integrating Hebrew language into programming. Candidates will be asked to help track student progress and be a liaison between teachers and the director regarding issues of concern. The Curriculum Support Specialist will also be the primary faculty member responsible for assisting other teachers in producing classroom materials, such as flashcards, reading or writing practice sheets, games, and other resources.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate both Hebrew decoding skills, as well as familiarity with teaching tefillot and siddur skills. Applicants do not need to be fluent in modern Hebrew, but must demonstrate proficiency in basic Hebrew language, including classroom, synagogue, and Hebrew life vocabulary. Candidates should be organized, able to demonstrate independent judgment in prioritizing demands, attention to detail, the ability to multitask, clear written and verbal communication skills and an overall positive attitude and enthusiasm for being part of a team.
Candidates should have a minimum of basic computer skills, including google docs, Word, and Excel, as well as web skills and the ability to teach in person and online, should we need to switch to remote learning at any point. Preference will be given to candidates with prior Hebrew through Movement experience and/or you must be willing to complete online HTM training this fall. Candidates must be willing to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as move between floors of our building. The most important qualification for this position is flexibility and a willingness to work as part of a team to support our students and families.
Scheduled weekly hours are October 1st - June 1st, excluding school vacations. Programming calendar can be provided upon application. Position is a salaried position, paid monthly according to our payroll calendar. If candidate begins after October 1st, the salary will be pro-rated to reflect missed sessions.
