Temple Sinai is a vibrant, diverse, egalitarian Conservative synagogue, made up of roughly 400 households and serving a wonderful Philadelphia suburb in Montgomery County. Temple Sinai provides a wide variety of worship opportunities and programs including daily minyanim, Friday and Saturday Shabbat worship, a year-round Preschool, Summer Camp, Religious School, social action programs, and an active adult education program. Our congregation is welcoming and has an abundance of opportunities for our congregants including but not limited to: social justice programming, educational programming and interfaith family programming. We seek an Executive Director who is eager to join our active and dynamic congregation, and help us navigate an exciting future.
Your role includes directing, managing and coordinating the secular business and financial activities of Temple Sinai in accordance with the policies, goals and objectives established by the Board of Directors. You will report to the Board President and Board of Directors, in parallel with the Senior Rabbi, and supervise the synagogue office and infrastructure support staff.
You will be responsible for all administrative and operational functions of Temple Sinai personally or through delegation to staff and volunteers for assuring the performance of key activities. You will oversee the work of Temple Sinai staff to ensure that all required activities are carried out in a timely, professional manner in support of the mission of Temple Sinai. You will also be also responsible for the following:
- Budget and Financial Management
- Risk Management and Legal Concerns
- Human Resources and Personnel Administration
- Supervising Communications and Public Relations
- Member Engagement and Volunteer Relations
- Supervising Annual Appeal and Fundraising Initiatives
At a tactical level, you will hire and supervise all administrative staff, administer all financial activities of the Congregation, coordinate all programming except those programs overseen by other members of the Senior Staff, review and approve all member-directed communications and non-member marketing, play an integral role in fundraising and development, and oversee all aspects of our physical facilities (including maintenance, repair and new construction) and technology.
It is at the strategic level, however, that you should truly excel. Membership recruitment and retention are the lifeblood of our congregation, and you will often be our first public face to potential members, financially-distressed or concerned members, and the external community. You will attend the monthly meetings of our Board of Directors and our Executive Committee and are expected to be an active participant in their policy discussions and strategic planning; the same is true with respect to the weekly Senior Staff meetings and the weekly meeting with the Senior Rabbi and the Board President.
In short, we are not looking for a great manager, or a great strategic leader, or a great people person who collaborates well with colleagues and the Board and relates well to members. We are looking for someone who possesses all of these skill sets and who will participate actively in the life of our vibrant congregation.
Salary is $90,000(ish), and relocation costs may be considered as well
