Executive Director Congregation Temple Sinai New Orleans, Louisiana
Temple Sinai is Louisiana’s oldest and largest Reform congregation, with a proud history of both inspired rabbinic leadership committed to tikkun olam and service to the spiritual needs of our diverse membership. The Executive Director (ED) is a full partner with our Clergy and the Board of Trustees in the day-to-day operations and long-term success of Temple Sinai. The ED reports to the Board and is supervised by the Senior Rabbi.
The ED’s primary and secondary responsibilities are explained as follows:
Primary Responsibilities (Must show experience with)
Administrative –Develop, maintain and implement administrative systems such as Shulcloud (our congregant management platform), Microsoft Office products, etc. Supervise and delegate staff and resources to enable the effective operation of the synagogue. Operate the Temple effectively and complement staff strengths and teaming to accomplish tasks. Purchases equipment and materials within budget.
Facilities Management - Day to day responsibilities of operations and security of the synagogue, including the support of and readiness for Temple events. Organize maintenance staff and their actions to facilitate regular maintenance, deferred maintenance, repairs and building up-keep efficiently and timely. Oversee facility rentals and vendors associated with rentals.
Member Relations – Maintain and update, through staff assignment, congregational records and synagogue event calendar, for both financial and household records. Initiate and support close connections with synagogue membership and communicate regularly with congregants through digital media.
Financial Management – Ensure sound financial management for the synagogue, budgeting and accounting (QuickBooks), and use of appropriate financial controls, either directly or through subcontracts. Work closely with the Treasurer and Budget Committee.
Communications and Public Relations – Primary spokesperson and public face of the administrative office (promotes the synagogue, advocates for the synagogue’s vision and mission, builds relationships with the congregation). Serve as a “congregational ambassador” (a people person) both within the synagogue and the Jewish community, as well as with our neighbors.
Discretion/Confidentiality - Inform the board about sensitive/confidential matters involving our congregation, community, i.e. financial difficulties, illness, etc. Handle confidential staff issues regarding human resources, payroll, etc.
Board Relations – Work with Board, Committees and Auxiliaries, to develop and foster a strong working relationship and system of information and enable the Board to carry out governance. Planning/Visioning – Work with the Board and Executive Board to develop a shared vision for the future of the congregation (short-term and long-term).
Programming – Work with the Clergy, Board and volunteers to develop and implement programs and events.
Fundraising – Responsible for fundraising systems and strategies to meet the goals of the congregation and carry out the mission.
Other Professional – Join, attend meetings at a local, regional and national level, including URJ, NATA, etc. that are supported by the synagogue.

Salary and benefits (including health insurance) are commensurate with experience, which can range from $85,000 to $110,000.
