Cantor / Education Director - Florida
Temple Beth Torah in Wellington, Florida, seeks a dynamic Cantor/Education Director. We are a thriving Reform congregation of 300 family units located in the western area of Palm Beach County, near West Palm Beach. The area is a fast-growing community with excellent public schools. Families are attracted to Wellington because of its special quality of life and beautiful surroundings. We are seeking a cantor/educator who enjoys a participatory, music-loving congregation; who can meet the needs of our diverse, inclusive, modern Jewish community; who can supervise and direct our vibrant education and religious school program; and is interested in creating a clergy partnership with our Rabbi.
The successful candidate for this position will know Hebrew trope, and have knowledge of Jewish liturgy, traditions, and Judaica. S/he will be musically knowledgeable, capable of accessing a broad range of Jewish music, whether it is modern, traditional, or folk-style. S/he must also possess excellent vocal ability that invites both spirituality and congregational participation. This position also oversees our religious school and staff with 150 students in grades K-7.
S/he must be able to plan worship services in partnership with the Rabbi, and at times direct our part time congregational choir. The successful candidate will have teaching abilities as well as effective communication and leadership skills. A desire to learn and expand her/his knowledge as well as competence in technology and social media is a must. Playing an instrument is preferred.
The candidate should be comfortable overseeing our B’nai Mitzvah program and enjoy working closely with our Preschool Director to bring creative programming ideas, including music, to our expanding schools.
The Cantor/Education Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Working creatively with the Rabbi and other staff and volunteers to develop meaningful worship experiences.
-Overseeing the Religious School Curriculum and supervision of staff.
-Overseeing the B’nai Mitzvah program and co-officiating at services.
-Officiating at, or participating in, a full range of life cycle events as requested by the Rabbi and/or congregants, including times when the Rabbi is not available.
-Collaborating with the Preschool and Religious school staff for Shabbat, Family and/or holiday music programs. Working with our Youth Director in developing various programs for our youth group.
-Attending staff, committee, and/or board meetings; and congregational and community events, as appropriate.
-The position is full time.
