Communications Manager

Create, implement, and measure the success of a comprehensive communications and public relations program consistent with TSTI mission and values to increase awareness and engagement among the Jewish community and general public, as well as the existing temple community. This includes website maintenance, creation and delivery of electronic communications, social media strategy and postings, light graphic design for flyers, general public relations around temple activities. The position is also responsible to maintain existing Temple brand, color and style guidelines.

Responsibilities & Duties
Collaborate with Clergy, Staff and Lay Leadership as applicable to:
• Establish congregation’s communications strategy and creative direction in partnership with lay leadership
• Participate in weekly Senior Staff meetings to be informed of leadership priorities and decisions and provide insight and guidance with respect to communications issues and needs
• Create program-specific communications plans that will mobilize specific audiences to respond/participate
• Maintain the Temple website to ensure the information is current, accurate and engaging and accurately reflects TSTI
• Unify and align congregational communications and ensure brand consistency
• Establish clear benchmarks and metrics for success
• Ensure regular contact with media (Jewish and secular), and provide appropriate response and/or arrange for and monitor interviews for all media requests, and track press coverage
• Promote temple events internally and, as appropriate, externally
• Manage ongoing social media efforts and track engagement as practical
• Manage communications budget to ensure fiscal responsibility with regard to advertising and promotional items
• Assemble a “paparazzi” of members and lay leaders to help provide photos from events
• Provide advice and consultation to temple groups in accordance with TSTI brand guidelines
• Coordinate with Program Director on TSTI calendar

Qualifications and Skills
• Commitment to providing extraordinary customer service to members and prospective members and modeling the same for the rest of the staff.
• College degree and at least five years of work experience in marketing, communications/PR with strong knowledge of social media, web design, graphic design and electronic communications
• Knowledge and understanding of Jewish traditions and practices
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of working well with others
• Superior communication and writing skills
• Excellent organizational, project planning and management abilities
• Solid problem solving and decision-making skills
• Attention to detail and pride in taking the time to do things right
• Demonstrated success and effectiveness in participatory team projects
• Ability to set priorities, work independently, follow through on programs and projects, and adapt to changing situations
• Strong proficiency in using WordPress, [InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.] as well as a love of learning new software and better ways to accomplish tasks.
