Beth Am Synagogue is currently seeking a passionate, creative, and enthusiastic educator to join our dynamic team, and to lead our B'nei Mitzvah class. Beth Am is a Conservative Synagogue located in the Reservoir Hill Neighborhood of Baltimore committed to seeking Jewish responses to life’s biggest questions, fostering a sacred community in Reservoir Hill, and pursuing Justice in Baltimore and beyond.
Beth Am’s supplementary Jewish education program, the Jewish Discovery Lab, is an interactive, individualized approach to Jewish Learning for kindergarten to eighth grade students. Our open classroom model provides students not only input into their learning goals but allows for self-directed learning. Lab focuses on core areas of Jewish knowledge and applies them to relevant Jewish experiences.
This 5 hr/week position will help design and facilitate a class for incoming sixth and seventh graders preparing to become B’nei Mitzvah. Students will engage in products to explore their own identity, their place in Jewish community, and the Jewish mandate to repair the world. Students will also engage in workshops to practice skills useful for their Bnei Mitzvah including public speaking, tallit making, and more. In spring, the class will meet in various locations in Baltimore, for students to participate in diverse justice projects.
The B’nei Mitzvah class meets most Sundays from 9:30am-12:30pm and Wednesdays from 4:15pm-6:15pm. The teacher will also be responsible for attending a one hour monthly staff meeting. The educator will be responsible for co-creating lessons with the Director of Youth and Family Education, facilitating the B’nei Mitzvah class program, and communicating with families between sessions.

A passionate educator, excited to work in a synagogue school with middle school students
Experienced working in experiential Jewish settings (camp, school programs) , and with diverse learners
A timely communicator, who will be in regular communication with the Director of Youth and Family Education, our students, and their parents
A team player, who is excited about helping co-create dynamic lessons to prepare students to become B’nei Mitzvah
