Coordinator of Volunteer Services

The Ark, an iconic human service agency serving the Chicagoland Jewish Community, seeks a Coordinator of Volunteer Services. This individual must have an exceptional aptitude for detail and organization, with a positive and charismatic demeanor. The candidate will help expand the volunteer role in day-to-day services and several major projects and will be instrumental in helping convey the mission and purpose of The Ark to the public. This individual will report directly to Director of Community Engagement and Education.

• Collaborate with leadership/staff to determine organizational needs for volunteers
• Implement new volunteer recruitment plan
• Assist with orientation and training of volunteers
• Create and communicate schedules for volunteer assignments
• Maintain volunteer data, create and submit reports
• Communicate with marketing staff to develop materials to promote programs
• Design volunteer recognition activities; implement retention strategies
• Respond to emails and phone calls in timely manner
• Serve as an ambassador of The Ark with volunteers, clients, community
• Other tasks as needed; providing occasional support to our Food Pantry program

• Organizational skills/attention to detail with ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to adapt to unexpected or last minute changes in plans or schedules
• Willingness to collaborate, ask questions, and state expectations
• Highly effective written and verbal communication

• Aptitude for identifying possible issues/crises and finding quick solutions
• Sensitivity toward confidentiality concerns related to clients, volunteers, and staff
• Proficiency in or ability to learn Office 365, Sign-Up Genius, Salesforce

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Psychology, Human Resources or related field
• 2+ years of relevant experience in volunteer coordination
• General knowledge of the Greater Chicagoland Jewish Community
• Ability to work occasional Sundays
• Willingness to travel locally from our main office in West Rogers Park
• Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
