Middle School Science Teacher
Job Summary:
The Rabbi Jacob Pressman Academy of Temple Beth Am seeks to hire an experienced science educator to implement a middle school science program for students who will be applying to and enrolling in competitive secondary school programs. The candidate will not only have a history of successful and innovative teaching, but will also be committed to mentorship and professional sharing in a highly collaborative environment. A thorough knowledge of elementary and/or secondary school science curricula, coupled with a genuine interest in working with Middle School-aged children are essential components of this position.
Successful candidates should expect to participate in a curriculum that reaches far beyond content and processing skills, with a focus on character, community and service, and will make authentic and meaningful contributions to the school community outside the classroom.
We are looking for candidates who have taught middle grade students for at least three years and have experience with differentiation.
Noting the uncertainties that come with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is worth mentioning that while we do not know exactly what structure the 2021-2022 school year will have, we are looking for a candidate who is willing to teach in-person classes if needed.
Main responsibilities:
Teach two grades, likely seventh and eighth, of middle school science, incorporating engineering, project-based learning and design thinking
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
Plan for differentiated curricular progression to meet the needs of each individual learner including understanding of modifications, accommodations and enrichment as it applies to diverse learners
Utilization of technology to keep attendance, keep a gradebook, to communicate with parents and students, as well as a teaching tool
Qualifications:
Degree (BA or MA) from a college or university in education with a mathematics, science, or engineering endorsement or a degree (BS or MS) in mathematics, science or engineering with a valid teaching credential
Minimum of 3 years previous Middle School and/or High School teaching experience preferred
Possess a strong background in middle school integrated science curriculum including but not limited to: Earth Science, application of the scientific method, analyzing data, and promoting inquiry based learning
Provide standards-based, structured project based learning opportunities that interconnect STEM subjects
Experience in planning & implementing an engaging, integrated curriculum
Pedagogical knowledge of differentiated instruction to offer varied paths to different levels of math achievement based on student skill level, learning style, and motivation among other factors
Blend of traditional and innovative methodologies
Technological proficiency and preferably experience using iPads
Dedication to professional growth and development
Excellent classroom management skills
Willingness to co-teach classes as needed with another teacher
In addition to the above essential job functions each Day School Full Time Teacher shall be required to:
1. Participate in morning drop-off, lunch, recess and dismissal supervision as requested by the Administration
2. Substitute and cover for co-workers when requested by the Administration
3. Supervise and chaperone student activities during and outside of school hours as requested by the Administration
4. Prepare progress reports and report cards in MS and communicate with parents as required by the Communication Protocol
In addition a Full Time Teacher must attend the following events:
1. Staff Week
2. Back to School Night
3. Beginning of Year Middle School Trip
4. Student Learning Conferences (Twice During the School Year)
5. Professional Development Days as scheduled by the Administration
