NFTY East Area Manager

The role of NFTY Area Manager is vital to the success of URJ and our teen engagement strategies. NFTY Area Managers work collaboratively with stakeholders, teens, camp and NFTY North American leadership to support NFTY and teen engagement both regionally and throughout North America. This role is focused on year-round engagement which includes supporting the creation of new strategies including NFTY, mentoring current teens and creating systems to support emerging teen leaders, overseeing NFTY regional events in partnership with host camps, supporting the network of NFTY adult volunteers in their area, working closely with congregational, community and youth leaders to inspire, and facilitate and increased impact of the URJ’s mission to create a more whole, just and compassionate world. The Area Manager will serve in a leadership capacity in residence at a URJ Camp during the summer or will use the time to travel and spend time at multiple camps in their area.

Essential Functions include:

Relationship Management

In partnership with URJ camps and the URJ Strengthening Congregations team, support a network of the 100+ synagogue professionals whose portfolios include year round teen engagement (including rabbis, educators, cantors and youth professionals)
Align congregations and URJ strategy for teen engagement
Convene the network of volunteer mentors in the East Area who support NFTY programming and teen leaders

Teen Engagement/ Mentoring

Mentoring and supporting the NFTY teen board and leaders in the East Area including helping them work with the network of NFTY adult volunteers (NFTY-GER, NFTY-NE, NFTY-PAR, NFTY-NAR and NFTY-MAR)
In partnership with the full camp staff, running 2-3 retreats per year when safe to return to in-person programming.
Developing and running the Madrichim Academy and/or other URJ Teen Leadership Opportunities.

Being a full team member of the NFTY staff working collaboratively to support teen leaders across North America.

NFTY Strategy

Collaborating with North American leaders and the larger URJ community, to engage teens and core stakeholders in the evolution of NFTY
Overseeing the NFTY strategy in their area
Partner with the Camp Director and camp staff to cultivate and rebrand existing programming for teens in the hub
Cultivating opportunities to expand the teen leadership opportunities in their area


Master’s Degree in youth/Jewish education related field
3 years of relevant professional experience
Impeccable skills in leveraging effective working relationships and influencing key stakeholders in support of organizational goals
Top-notch oral and written communication skills
Proven customer service skills
Advanced organizational and planning skills.
Proven ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multitask with minimal supervision.
