Interim Education Director

Judea Reform Congregation, with approximately 600 member units, is a Reform synagogue located near several world class universities. We believe that learning, prayer, relationships, and deeds help to transform people’s understanding of themselves, channel the power of community, and inform our responsibilities to the world.

This is a full time, year-long interim position responsible for managing Judea Reform Congregation's Religious School and teen programs.

-Maintaining an engaging and substantive curriculum for Pre-K through 12th grade students that encompasses study of Torah and sacred texts, Hebrew instruction, history, holidays, life cycle, music, knowledge of Israel, and tikkun olam opportunities
-Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, evaluating and retaining qualified religious school teachers, staff, and madrichim
-Supporting all learners through appropriate accommodations
-Providing on-going feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities for teachers and madrichim
-Communicating with parents/guardians, weekly and as needed
-Working with the Rabbi and Director of Music and Community Engagement to plan curriculum and programming to prepare students for b’nai mitzvah
-Collaborating with the Rabbi on curriculum and programming for 10th Grade Kabbalat Torah (confirmation program)
-Developing and overseeing Jewish programs within the school that include
parent/guardian//family involvement
-Maintaining communication with teachers, staff, and madrichim via bulletins and meetings
-Managing the religious school budget in conjunction with the Executive Director and Business Manager
-Facilitating religious school services in collaboration with other staff and youth leaders
-Supporting the senior youth advisor and Jewish community-wide teen program
-Attending and supporting relevant committees, Board of Trustees, and other synagogue meetings as requested
-Participating in Shabbat and other holiday services that include religious school programs
-Maintaining confidential student and personnel records
-Overseeing the electronic school registration process
-Coordinating room utilization with the rest of the synagogue
-Preparing school and youth related communications for congregational publications, such as the weekly congregational e-newsletter
-Enlisting and working with volunteers
-Promoting URJ summer camps, NFTY, and other Reform Jewish experiences
-Establishing and maintaining relationships with congregants and staff to connect community members to the congregation in a meaningful way

Religious school staff: teachers, school office personnel, madrichim

The Senior Rabbi directly and accountable to the Board of Trustees of the synagogue

-Minimum of five years of related experience and a background in Jewish education
-Strong knowledge of Reform Judaism, Hebrew, and Jewish life and culture
-Master’s Degree in Jewish Education, General Education, and Social Work all considered
-Speak and write in a clear and professional manner
-Knowledge of Jewish supplementary school curriculum
-Strong attention to detail and administrative systems
-Dedication to relational leadership driven by the values of kavod (respect) and chesed (compassion)
-Enthusiasm for educational practices and school leadership
-Agility with basic computer and online skills, including the Google suite of applications and other communication platforms
-Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed

-Salary commensurate with experience
-Medical and dental insurance with Judea Reform Congregation covering 100% of the costs of insurance for the employee
-Two weeks of paid vacation
