Academic Research Assistant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION - The Atlanta-based Center for Israel Education (CIE) seeks to hire an Academic Research Assistant (ARA) to undertake research on topics that pertain to Israel, its history, politics, society and international relations. A working knowledge of modern Israeli history and of the general modern Middle East is essential. The ARA will use archives, use library and on-line materials, write papers and analyses, and assemble book chapters. The ARA should be an excellent word-smith. The ARA will work under the direct supervision of CIE’s President and Chief Content Officer, Professor Kenneth Stein, and report as well to the CIE Office Manager. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An MA or LLD degree in any of the following fields of study: international relations, foreign policy, political science, law, history, sociology, or English. The candidate must show that either through courses attended or work experience that she or he possesses a broad academic knowledge of modern Israel. A very good understanding of modern Middle Eastern history is desired. Preference will be given to those who have a background or coursework in a number of social science disciplines. Under certain conditions, a B.A. degree may be acceptable as a prerequisite for the position, if a minimum of four years of demonstrated work experience can be shown to have been a core focus of previous work. Demonstrated competence in computer skills is necessary. Candidates with a working fluency in Hebrew will be given preference for consideration, as well as those who may have working knowledge of a European language. The ARA must be fluent in English, write clearly, coherently, and concisely. A natural curiosity for learning and passion for deepening one’s knowledge about Israel and the Middle East should make the ARA’s work a rewarding experience.

Additional Details for the CIE ARA position:
The salary range is $50,000 to $65,000. CIE does not provide health insurance or other benefits, however, CIE will provide compensation supplements needed to help secure health care coverage. A transportation or moving stipend can be provided. The work of the ARA can begin remotely, but relocation to Atlanta is definitely expected to take place no later than fall 2021.
