The Family Educator at Mishkan plays a critical role in providing high quality educational experiences for families and children at Mishkan dividing their time between teaching at Mensch Academy, coordinating Bmitzvahs, and coordinating community building programs that occur outside of Shabbat and Holidays. This job is a full time, salaried position in our Chicago office, reporting to the Associate Rabbi and working closely with and receiving regular feedback and guidance from the Director of Mensch Academy. The Family Educator is instrumental in creating Mishkan as a truly intergenerational community and delivering a sense of purpose, inspiration, and connection to kids and families.
As Family Educator, this role involves coordinating youth and family community building programs with close collaboration and oversight from the Associate Rabbi. The Family Educator should expect to work 1-2 Shabbat mornings a month when BMitzvahs occur and occasional weekend days and nights for community building programs.
As a lead Educator at Mensch, the Family Educator will plan, implement, lead, and document Mensch Academy sessions for children. Grounded in progressive education pedagogy, Mensch Academy places focus not only on teaching kids, but on growing and developing thoughtful, reflective educators While six hours a week are spent in the classroom with students, even more time is spent outside the classroom reflecting on lessons, gathering notes from student work, debriefing, brainstorming, and growing your teaching craft.
