General Manager (part time/contract/remote)
ABOUT TOLERANCE EDUCATION CENTER
Founded in 2006 by Holocaust survivor Earl Greif, the mission of the Tolerance Education Center (TEC) is to promote tolerance, civility, respect and understanding by the elimination of atrocities, hatred, and bigotry. The Center’s programs, activities and exhibits provide an educational opportunity for students and the community at large to learn to reduce prejudice, teach critical thinking, and empower those who visit to take a more active role in creating a more humane society. The Center’s goal is to encourage visitors to reject prejudice and hate, question stereotypes, and embrace diversity through our educational and public programs, including lectures, films, exhibits, and presentations. Local students visit TEC on field trips to hear first-hand accounts from survivors of the Holocaust, other genocides, and other incidences of hate crimes.
Reporting to the Board President, the General Manager serves as the Center’s creative leader who implements their overarching vision while overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. The General Manager will manage internal processes and the budget, oversee and implement programs, and conduct outreach and forge partnerships to advance the Center’s mission.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide strategic and creative leadership, managing staff and budget while remaining focused on growth, display, interpretation, diversity and accessibility for the Center’s collection and exhibitions.
Develop a multi-year content calendar that is multidisciplinary, progressive and scalable across all lines of the mission, including: curatorial, public programs, education, and digital subject matter.
Develop innovative approaches and use technology to deepen visitor experience and engagement with exhibitions and related online programming.
Spearhead fundraising efforts sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
Work with the board, officers and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
Interact, engage and act as a Center spokesperson with community and media.
Establish and maintain relationships with similar organizations nationally and globally.
Commitment to educating about the Holocaust and genocide studies and its connection to current national and global trends and events is necessary.
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
Nonprofit management experience preferred.
Interest in and/or experience in exhibition design and development, curriculum development, educational program development and implementation, nonprofit organizations, and/or Jewish communal organizations.
Experience in effectively managing a team.
Proven history of successful fundraising and ability to cultivate existing and new donors.
Communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation abilities, as well as experience in public speaking.
Experience building bridges and partnerships with similar organizations to advance goals.
Strong organizational skills, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
Good working knowledge and experience utilizing social media platforms.
This is an independent contractor position that will work 20 hours a week. Job can be performed remote with some work taking place at the Center in Rancho Mirage.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
