Jewish Emergent Network Diversity Statement
The Jewish Emergent Network seeks diversity in its leadership. That means we invite applications from different denominations and religious (or non-religious) and cultural backgrounds. We are searching for candidates of color, candidates who are Jews by choice or Jewish adjacent, candidates in the LGBTQ community, and candidates who identify personally at any part of the incredibly rich gender spectrum.
Jewish Emergent Network Overview
The Jewish Emergent Network comprises the leaders of seven path-breaking Jewish communities from across the United States that have come together in the spirit of collaboration. These include: IKAR in Los Angeles, Kavana in Seattle, The Kitchen in San Francisco, Mishkan in Chicago, Sixth & I in Washington D.C., and Lab/Shul and Romemu in New York. The Jewish Emergent Network exists to amplify each member organization’s work and harness our collective power to inject creative inspiration into and help transform Jewish life.
History of Programs
The Network launched an innovative Rabbinic Fellowship in 2016, its first major collaborative project. This Fellowship placed select early career rabbis into each of the seven participating Network communities for a two-year period, in order to train the next generation of enterprising rabbis to take on the challenges and realities of 21st century Jewish life in America in a variety of settings. In 2020, the Network produced major national justice and holiday programming that collectively reached over 45,000 people, including the DAWN Shavuot Festival with REBOOT, The Confessions of the Heart Racial Equity Elul Challenge, Yom Kippur’s For the Sin Of..., Simhat Torah Coast to Coast, and Hanukkah at Home. In 2021, we are a primary programmatic partner on the Big Bold Jewish Climate Festival for Tu B’Shvat.
The next major project for the Jewish Emergent Network will be a pioneering and captivating Jewish learning experience. At the same time, we will move forward strategically with continued collaborative holiday and justice programming, and seek paths for sharing some of our gained wisdom with other leaders in the field.
Director Job Description

Remote for now, with a preference for candidates located in one of the Jewish Emergent Network hubs (Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Washington, DC).
The director holds the sacred space and owns the administrative expertise that binds together the dynamic leaders of the seven Jewish Emergent Network organizations.

Strategic Vision & Practice
• Works in collaboration with Network leaders to set the strategic vision and crafts the strategic plan.
• Brings creative thought leadership and design-oriented thinking to the Network.
• Liaises with other organizations and communities in the field, with an eye towards potential partnerships.
• Sets benchmarks for success. Works with external evaluators and builds robust internal data collection methods in order to track progress
and evaluate success of programs and projects.
• Stays abreast of happenings in the Jewish communal world, including the philanthropic landscape.
• Seeks opportunities to learn from others, within and outside of the Network.
• Brings a mentality of abundance to the challenge of holding lines of communication between stakeholders, so that relationships have the
opportunity to flourish and grow. Develops and stewards their own outstanding communications practices in order to grow relationships.
• Masterminds complicated communications within and between the Jewish Emergent Network organizations and leadership, including
organizing Zoom meetings, learning intensives, and summits; facilitates cross-pollination at all levels of staffing; and, collaborates on, sets,
and facilitates agendas.
• Works with a variety of scheduling tools—such as Doodle, Calendly, SurveyMonkey, and emails—to proactively schedule and reschedule
touchpoints between a large group of stakeholders that all have extremely busy calendars.
• Writes and issues press releases and maintains relationships with key media contacts.
• Maintains and updates the Network website. Builds new pages and sections for projects and programs.
• Manages the social media accounts for the Network.
• Optimizes web and social media presence for inbound marketing purposes.
• Maintains and stewards collaborative and trusting relationships with existing foundations and funders.
• Seeks out new and potential funders, and develops relationships between themselves and the foundations as well as Network leaders and
• Plumbs the deep wisdom and relationships of Network leaders in order to generate new ideas for funding.
• Crafts LOIs, grant proposals, budgets, and grant reports that reflect the dynamic vision and work of the Network.
• Executes creative and proficient project management with a willingness and enthusiasm to approach whatever projects Network leaders
• Works with Network leadership to plan and deliver joint holiday and justice programming across the calendar year.
• Manages a major adult learning program, bringing sophisticated web-based learning directly to consumers around the world.
• Handles all aspects of programs, including: concept art and titling, webpage building, press releases and promotion, content production,
registration, moderation, post-event data collection and analysis, and more.
• Handles all aspects of potential future in-person programs, including: concept art and titling, webpage building, press release and
promotion, content production, environmental theming, registration, travel, food and lodging, venue rentals, swag and merchandise,
speakers, printed collateral, check-in procedures, and post-even data collection and analysis, and more.
Budgeting & Accounting
• Maintains Network budgets and bank accounts.
• Facilitates internal and external audits.
• Liaises with bookkeepers to keep pristine records.
Hiring & Supervision
• When appropriate for the project, hires, trains, and supervises staff members.
• Uses best-in-class DEI methods in all parts of hiring funnels.
• Uses best-in-class supervision and personnel review methods to create and maintain productive and trusting relationships with staff.
• Operates with extreme organization and efficiency.
• Works effectively within the Network’s scrappy and creative organization.
• Researches, hires, and supervises third party vendors, such as designers, editors, videographers, facilitators, and consultants.
• Holds many administrative details without letting things fall through the cracks, including but not limited to: scheduling, file maintenance,
and check requests. Attends to all details of in-person programs and gatherings, and is equally prepared to set up folding chairs and clean
up a buffet table as they are to hold the strategic vision and facilitate major pieces of content.
You are an experienced not-for-profit professional who is ready to take the next step in your career.
You are comfortable and/or willing to ensconce yourself in Jewish communal settings. You welcome working with constituents and stakeholders across various levels of observance, and thrive when putting Torah at the heart of your work.
You are a proactive and resilient team-player with sterling communication skills, compelling public speaking ability, a thoughtful and self-reflective presence, and a documented history of taking risks.
You have at least some experience with funding, budgeting, project planning, and the Jewish philanthropic landscape.
You are proficient with strategic visioning and program management and can keep track of many threads without dropping any. You are detail oriented but also great at big-picture planning.
You are comfortable with basic web design software, email management, social media channels, the Microsoft suite, budgeting software, and databases. You have experience with or a willingness to quickly adopt cloud-based, project management, and other enterprise software.

Salary & Benefits Overview:
Salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000, with a full benefit program including medical, dental, and vision coverage, short-term disability and limited life insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, family leave, and optional 401K. This is just an overview of salary and benefits and is not meant to be exhaustive or all-inclusive and is subject to change.
