B’Yachad is a synagogue-based community-focused, collaborative Religious School located in Montgomery County, Maryland, serving students from Kol Shalom, Shaare Torah, and Tikvat Israel congregations. More so than ever, this last year has taught us the importance of connecting beyond our physical walls and sharing resources. We are excited to build a thriving religious school that celebrates family engagement through partnerships between synagogues, with religious education as a connective thread throughout our Conservative Movement, in which shared experience is at the heart of the model.
We are searching for a full-time director who will build upon existing successes in each synagogue's religious school to innovate a new kind of school that integrates three congregations and supports the success and growth of all participating synagogues. The Director will accomplish this by maintaining and enhancing a learning environment for students that utilizes best practices in education while working closely with rabbis and leadership in the synagogues to achieve optimal educational content and experiences.
Religious School Director Responsibilities Include:
-Developing and communicating a vision that articulates and inspires stakeholders to build the B’Yachad brand, curricular/programmatic approach, and unique role as an educational locus of participating congregations.
-Empowering staff and students to learn and grow.
-Directing all aspects of religious learning primarily for students in grades K-7, including, but not limited to:
-Curriculum development and implementation
-Staff recruitment and supervision
-Parent communication, including overseeing website updates, and student assessment
-Goal-setting and evaluation of classes and programs
-Communication with all stakeholders
-Adhering to budget
-On-going reflection, evaluation and professional learning for all staff
-Application and registration process for new and returning students
-Supervising Sunday and mid-week program along with individualized Hebrew/prayer program as part of each student’s learning
-Develop and implement experiential learning programs for students and families in grades K-7 for Shabbat and holidays in collaboration with synagogues’ staff, lay leadership, and Rabbis.
-Communicate with the rabbis on matters of Jewish law, observance, and teaching to ensure consistency with congregational practices and the -Conservative movement.
-Coordinate transition of preschoolers into the kindergarten religious learning program.
-Collaborate with strategic partners for success with:
-Holiday programming in participating congregations
-Mid-week teen tutor management
-Shabbat experiential learning
-Internal and external engagement
-Collaborate with the Board and lay leadership
-Strategize new and innovative ways to keep students of all ages engaged in educational offerings
-Coordinate all issues involving registration, payroll, personnel, communications and finances, building usage and staffing with the Executive Directors of participating congregations.
-Establish connections with other religious school programs in the area to share resources and provide professional development.
The Religious School Director should have:
-a strong foundation in educational pedagogy
-an ability to guide the instructional practices of teachers, program leaders and support staff
-a strong background in Judaics with the ability to integrate Jewish content and values into all educational synagogue programs
-strong communication, supervisory and organizational management skills
-background in stewarding a school/organization through change
-ability to be an ambassador and visionary to create and guide a new school to success across multiple synagogue communities
