Executive Director

The position of Executive Director is essential to the smooth operation of Jewish Federation and Jewish Community Foundation and is integral to the cohesiveness of the entire community. The position requires multi-faceted skills to ensure the effective administration of Jewish Federation/Foundation, but that also make it possible to convene affiliate agencies and others in the community to create consensus to further Jewish Federation’s mission and in support of the annual campaign.


Job responsibilities include, but not limited to, admin supervision, campaigns, communication to board and committees, community organization, financial management, foundations, outreach, program planning, and staff supervision.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration

Supervision of general operations and staff
Timely payment for finance and other expenses
Issuing monthly campaign statements
Negotiating contracts with leases and leases or lease renewals for Jewish Federation property and landlord (Katz JCC).

Annual Campaign
The Executive Director is the lead staff person for the Annual Campaign, and must work closely with the Board of Directors, Campaign Chairs, and volunteers on Campaign Cabinet to ensure the Annual Campaign is robust and vibrant.
Maintain excellent relations with donors (particularly those who make major gifts)
Engages in solicitation and stewardship of those who support the Annual Campaign.
Creative and strong campaign planning and marketing skills
Developing programs that promote and support campaign.
including major gift and affinity events, and in
communicating campaign success to the community and Board of Directors and Campaign Cabinet.

Board & Committees
The Board of Directors and its committees depend upon the Executive Director in fulfilling their roles in planning, policy setting, and communicating with donors and the community. It is imperative to the sound operation of Jewish Federation/Foundation that the Executive Director.
Work closely with the President and committee chairs to guarantee the flow of information.
Implement the policy and priorities of the board and its committees. This including:
meeting minutes and all reports necessary or requested by the board or committee chairs be available in a timely fashion.

Community Organization
As a member of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), it is incumbent upon the executive to remain connected, engaged, and informed on issues, personnel, policies, and opportunities for leadership and professional development and donor engagement that are offered or encouraged by JFNA and its national and international partners. The Executive Director must:
Ensure all pertinent information and any opportunities from JFNA are distributed to the board and all relevant committees, staff, congregational leadership, donors, and community.

Financial Management
Jewish Federation/Foundation’s Finance Director is a direct report to the Executive Director. While the Finance Director is responsible for accounting and financial recording and reporting, this work is overseen by the Executive Director, who must be familiar with accounting and financial procedures and practice.
Review and approve the output of the Finance Director.
Ensure payables and receivables are accurate and timely, as well as provide financial and investment reports to the respective boards.

Jewish Community Foundation
Responsible for all contributions to and distributions from funds in Foundation.
Working closely with the Finance Director, and board and investment chairs, the Executive Director
Develops and administers financial development strategies and programs, including LIFE & LEGACY, and is the primary point of contact for fundholders and prospective endowment donors to Foundation.
Draft fund agreements and work in consultation with individual donors and fundholders for approval and signature by the board chair.

Outreach & Community Relations
Encompass a deep understanding of the Jewish and general communities, Jewish practice, tradition, and values, as well as an awareness and understanding of Jewish issues, matters pertaining to Israel and Israel advocacy, and those broader issues locally, nationally, and globally of impact and concern to the Jewish community.
Serve as the official representative and spokesperson of the Jewish Federation and, in many cases, the local Jewish communities it serves.
Articulate organizations mission and work to the general community, establishing and maintaining positive relations with various business, civic, and faith-based sectors, as well as with local government and law enforcement. (i.e. the Israel Center and Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), Yom HaShoah Committee, Hillel, and NextGen).
Write a biweekly Jewish Federation column, to secure submissions for publication from campaign and committee chairs and others.
Develop or approve Jewish Federation advertising in each issue.

Program Planning
Ability to lead and participate in the planning and execution of a multitude of diverse program efforts related to Jewish Federation’s mission and in support of the annual campaign.
These include events focusing on campaign and affinity groups. (i.e. Brandeis, Maimonides, Major Gifts, Women’s Philanthropy, and Lion of Judah, Israel Center and JCRC program efforts, etc.).

Staff Supervision
Ability to supervise a small staff of professional and support personnel. Such as:
The Engagement Director, Finance Director, LIFE & LEGACY Coordinator (part-time), Operations Director in the Margate office, and Campaign Director and Communications Director (part-time) in the Vineland office.
Supervision and team development skills.
Oversight and approval of HR functions and records, including benefits.

COMPENSATION
Estimated Annual salary range $90,000-$120,000 including benefits.
