Special Events & Operations Assistant

SUMMARY
Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York is the oldest Reform synagogue in New York City, grounded in a rich history of Jewish communal leadership in the city and beyond. Our congregation is dynamic and forward-looking, and as our current membership of 2,300 families grows, we remain committed to ensuring that new and current members alike, as well as non-members who connect with us have high quality and meaningful experiences in all aspects of synagogue life.

The Events & Operations Assistant provides support for Temple events and programming, and serves under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement. Professional responsibilities primarily include:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Planning
- Engage with Temple members on event planning for lifecycle events throughout the year; coordinate with vendors, create event timelines and execute events onsite at the Temple
- Provide consistently high levels of customer service to members and non-members at all times

Engagement
- Primary staff person for Saturday Shabbat and Bar & Bat Mitzvah services throughout the year
- Represent Temple Administration at various life cycle receptions and Temple events throughout the year (nights and weekends may be required)
- Administrator for Zoom events as needed
- Assist with events and programming for Membership outreach groups


Operations
- Assist with scheduling for the Temple calendar
- Coordinate with Temple facilities staff to confirm event setups
- Implement COVID policies and procedures throughout event process

High Holy Days
- Play an active role in creating a meaningful High Holy Day experience; field inquiries regarding different services, assist with mailings and other duties assigned
- Critical team member onsite for High Holy Days

Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will possess or exhibit the following qualifications:
- 1-2 years events experience; knowledge of New York City event industry a plus
- Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of staff, clergy, volunteers, donors and community members, anticipating the needs of others
- Professional work style, ability to represent the temple in public-facing roles
- Self-motivated, thinks ahead and takes initiative on projects
- Able to work independently and on a team, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy, highly developed organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general comfort with technology
- Must be available to work in-person on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and for Sabbath services
