Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning for Teen Engagement

Position: Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning for Teen Engagement (full-time)
Reports to: Director of Lifelong Learning and Religious School and Family Engagement
Start Date: Ideally July 1, 2021; open to an end of summer 2021 start date

Temple Shaaray Tefila is at an exciting time in the life of our congregation as we embark on new plans to increase membership and grow our footprint. Temple Shaaray Tefila is a 600+ member unit Reform synagogue on the Upper East Side of New York City under the leadership of Senior Rabbi Joel Mosbacher and a talented team of professionals. Primary Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee Pathways, the comprehensive teen program for students in 8th-12th grade, including overseeing all Pathways electives and classes, hiring faculty, partnering with clergy, developing curriculum, and creating registration
- Serve as the advisor for TaSTY, the high school youth group, including mentoring supervising the TaSTY Board, staffing all TaSTY programs and meetings, planning all event logistics, and hiring additional staff as needed
- Supervise and oversee the teen teaching assistant program, including placement, training, meetings, and curriculum
- Plan, direct, and attend all teen trips, including hiring staff, working with trip organizers, directing recruitment and marketing efforts, overseeing financial responsibility, and ensuring health and safety during the trip for all participants
- Recruit teens to the synagogue teen internship program, partner with staff mentors, and plan intern learning sessions
- Create and develop teen services for the High Holy Days in partnership with teen leaders, music educator. and pulpit clergy
- Serve as the staff liaison for the Teen Engagement Committee and the College Connections Working Group
- Engage teens and their families in Jewish life and broader synagogue events
- Oversee the recruitment, promotion, and parent support for URJ summer camps and programs
- Develop the schedules and calendars for teen programs
- Create, edit and send all teen-related communications, including emails, website, and social media in coordination with the administrative assistant of Lifelong Learning and Engagement and the communications manager
- Attend to discipline issues and respond to parent inquiries and concerns
- Develop and manage the teen budget as part of the Religious School and Youth Department budget
- Monitor expenditures and maintain a fiscally responsible program
- Partner with the director of Lifelong Learning, Religious School and Family Engagement, director of Early Childhood Engagement, pulpit clergy and other staff as necessary to advance the strategic priorities of the schools and congregation
- Serve as a valued member of the synagogue staff by actively contributing and supporting colleagues and initiatives
- Participate in department huddles, attend program and staff meetings
- Update the Board of Trustees on critical developments pertaining to teen programs

Ideal skills and experience:
-Two to four years of experience in youth programming
-Logistical skills and experience in event planning
-URJ camp experience
