Director of Development

We Are Hiring

Jewish Currents is seeking a Development Director to join our team. Our organization requires a results minded and motivated individual to help create and drive development culture across verticals and through engagement with our small team, lay leaders, and donors and prospects.

The Development Director reports to the Managing Director, and will be expected to partner with senior staff to plan an aggressive growth strategy, with ultimate responsibility for managing the execution of the plan and representing development within the organization and in donor and prospect interactions. As such, the ideal applicant will have fundraising experience, excellent judgement and character, a strategic thought process, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Founded in 1946, Jewish Currents is a progressive Jewish magazine covering politics, culture, the arts and more. Relaunched in 2018 with an all-new staff and design, Jewish Currents publishes daily on our website, in our newsletter and quarterly in print issues of our award-winning magazine. Since our relaunch, we have tripled in size and received coverage in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Bloomberg, Buzzfeed, Vice, The Nation, Poetry Daily and elsewhere.

Jewish Currents is building the most important progressive Jewish publication in the Anglophone world and is already proving itself to be a key platform in the public discourse on matters of concern to the Jewish community.

Relevant Skills
Cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for philanthropic donors.
Experience with development funnels and pipeline management.
Management of a portfolio of donors.
Major gifts experience and solicitations ranging from $1-$25k+
Experience customizing materials for successful marketing and solicitation.
Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of databases by ensuring that all information is kept current and up to date.
Providing support to committees and volunteers during fundraising campaigns and events.
Assisting with the creation of event strategies.
Managing mail and correspondence to donors and prospects.
Managing grant identification and proposal process.
Performing basic administrative duties.
Assisting in scheduling meetings with prospective funders and donors.
Desire to grow and advance within the organization.

$60,000 yearly salary
