Repair the World (Repair) mobilizes Jews and their communities to take action to pursue a just world. We believe that service in support of social change is vital to a flourishing Jewish community and an inspired Jewish life. By 2030, Repair will inspire and catalyze one million acts of service towards repairing the world.
Repair the World engages young adults in social change around education and food justice in neighborhoods in thirteen cities across the country. In each community, Repair staff and Fellows use peer-to-peer outreach and recruitment to engage thousands of other young adults in volunteering and learning, support local nonprofits to create authentic and impactful volunteering and education opportunities for those participants, and partner with local Jewish organizations to plan meaningful service-learning opportunities. Through our national programs, Repair inspires and activates thousands of young American Jews to serve their communities through digital campaigns, national partnerships, and in-person and virtual trainings to individuals and organizations around the country.
Repair the World Detroit is proud to serve thousands of Jewish families throughout Metro Detroit. Our signature teen program, PeerCorps Detroit, engages Jewish teens in social change around education and food justice through a peer-to-peer leadership model where teens grades 6-12 commit to ongoing service and learning in the city.
Repair the World is seeking a Youth and Family Engagement Associate who will build on existing programming to engage children, teens, and families in meaningful service. This full time exempt position reports to the Executive Director of Repair the World Detroit. The Youth and Family Engagement Associate will have significant interaction with community-based service organizations, Jewish community partners and directly with Jewish youth and families interested in volunteering.
The successful candidate excels at building relationships with children of all ages, parents, and key community stakeholders; has a proven ability to plan, manage, and facilitate programming and projects and can get families excited about service and Jewish learning.
- PeerCorps Detroit & Teen Programming (75% of portfolio)
-- Facilitate PeerCorp participant recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing learning
-- Coordinate and support logistics for all PeerCorps service sites including transportation, supplies and schedules
-- Work closely with Repair the World Fellows on program implementation
-- Hold all administrative needs, including marketing, communications, transportation, data, budget and program calendar
-- Support relationships with Repair the World Detroit staff, parents, service sites, and other key stakeholders
-- Hold PeerCorps alumni engagement
-- Serve as a primary teen programmer for Repair the World Detroit - collaborating with the Youth Professional Network, local Synagogues, BBYO, and other Jewish/secular organizations that engage youth
-- Work closely with ED to continuously assess programming, plan strategically, and vision for growth
- Repair the World Detroit Family Programming (25% of portfolio)
-- Collaborate with Repair the World Detroit staff and fellows to build youth and families opportunities in ongoing programming
-- Build and sustain strong relationships with Detroit and Metro Detroit Jewish youth and family organizations such as JFamily, PJ Library, The Well, and others
-- Publish all family programs to Jewish communal platforms, such as JLife
-- Serve as a primary youth and family programmer for Repair the World Detroit, working with groups who reach out to Repair the World including teen alternative breaks
-- Contribute to Repair National youth and family building work, including national partnerships with youth and family engagement organizations

- Excellent developer and facilitator of programming, Jewish service learning, and group- based reflection for youth and families of all ages.
- Proven ability to recruit Jewish teen and family participants for programing and service projects
- Skilled in connecting and maintaining relationships with Jewish youth, families, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Awareness of poverty, structural racism, power and privilege, and ability to facilitate conversations around these issues with diverse groups of teens and families in ways that empower and open people to learning
- Passion for and strong commitment to volunteerism and service best practices.
- 2+ years of professional experience working with youth & families.

Our starting salary for this role is $36,000 if you have 1-2 years of relevant experience. If you have more than that, let’s talk. Benefits package includes paid time off for service in addition to vacation and holidays, employer pays 100% for employee medical/dental/vision coverage and 50% for dependents, retirement matching, and professional development. In addition, employees that have been with Repair for at least a year are eligible for 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
