Position Summary:

The Development Writer reports directly to the Director of Fundraising & Marketing Communications with dotted line report to the Director of Foundation and Corporate Engagement, supporting the research, writing and production of fundraising communications. These include but are not limited to grant, foundation and donor proposals, stewardship reports and other institutional advancement messaging.

Position Responsibilities:

• Study and understand Yeshiva University's history, objectives, structure, programs, financial needs, and unique value proposition
• Research, write and organize information in a professional and credible manner, from proposals and reports to supporting documents, with direction from supervisors
• Edit and revise proposals according to feedback
• Assist with researching funding opportunities that align with Yeshiva University's goals and values
• Proofread and copyedit
• Conduct interviews
• Maintain consistency in communications by following YU style, branding and policy guidelines
• Work with the design team to create graphics and visuals for projects

Experience & Educational Background:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field preferred
• Background in higher education or non-profit preferred
• Relevant experience in long-form writing and other communications/messaging
• Development experience preferred
• Strong project management skills

Skills & Competencies:

• Expert written and verbal communication skills
• Strong research skills
• Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and integrity
• Well-organized, flexible and detail and deadline oriented
• Strong knowledge of MS Office
• Familiarity with graphic design a plus
