Kehillat Israel (KI), a Reconstructionist synagogue in Pacific Palisades, California is an inclusive, spiritual Jewish community that provides a warm, nurturing environment where we pray, learn, educate, and perpetuate Torah and Jewish values while serving the greater community.

Our staff is an upbeat and collaborative group dedicated to making the world a better place and creating a sacred space for our congregants to find meaning, purpose, and joy.

We are looking for an experienced, proactive, and dynamic individual to support the work of our clergy team and the synagogue. This is a full-time position that requires organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work well with a variety of different people (including staff, congregants/families, and third parties). All candidates must be trustworthy, quick-thinkers who exercise sound judgment and who possess strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities Include:

· Maintain and update clergy calendars, manage/avoid scheduling conflicts, and maintain and update schedule with internal and external individuals and groups including meetings, lifecycle events, and service assignments

· Facilitate clergy correspondence with congregants

· Maintain designated social media accounts

· Prepare materials for clergy meetings and activities including certificates for baby namings, wedding materials, sheet music, music folders, and funeral intake forms

· Oversee and handle issues related to the clergy discretionary funds including drafting thank you notes and maintaining check logs

· Distribute lifecycle information upon receipt into KI’s Lifecycle Record

· Upkeep of Yahrzeit List including the most recently departed (the Shloshim List)

· Prepare language for congregational clergy announcements and notices of deaths

· Attend and photograph selected services and special events

· Work closely with membership department including handling tasks such as inputting congregant relationship management notes in our system on behalf of clergy

· Additional duties and responsibilities as may be requested by KI clergy


· Bachelor’s degree highly desirable (or significant equivalent relevant experience, at least 3-5 years)

· Knowledge of synagogue events, holidays, and terminology is required

· At least 2 years of experience in clergy/executive assistance or similar field highly preferred

· Successfully pass a thorough background check including a criminal background check and a Live Scan background check that meets state, federal and local requirements

· Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (primarily Word & Excel), G-Suite (primarily Google Calendar, Google Sheets, and Google Docs), ShulCloud and an aptitude to quickly learn additional software

· Typing speed of 50 words per minute or faster
