The Communications Manager position is an integral part of the Mishkan staff in our Chicago office, reporting to the Director of Communications. The Communications Manager helps to execute marketing and communications, helping our community more deeply and authentically engage with the organization and with Judaism. This position develops messaging for our programs, events, educational resources, and fundraising initiatives. Leveraging email, social media, print communications, podcasts, and the website, the Communications Manager will maintain a strong online presence by implementing engaging digital marketing strategies. Working with the Director of Communications, this role ultimately helps to enhance Mishkan Chicago’s presence, profile, and brand in Chicago and beyond.
What You’ll Do:
Creates ongoing Mishkan communications and is responsible for e-mail marketing: families, builders, and general newsletter. Helps to maintain email lists.
Manages digital presence including all social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Support short- and long-term communications goals, and ensure messaging incorporation across all channels.
Helps provide website support including search engine optimization keywords and indexing. Maintains website and calendars with close attention to detail.
Helps to draft and create a range of collateral—both print and online (annual reports, small group materials, brochures, fact sheets, etc.)
Produces some in-house graphic design to engage audiences across various channels delivered through digital platforms including website, newsletters, blogs, and various social media platforms.
Manages video presence including scripting and some editing of teaser and fundraising videos. Works with video producer for bigger projects and holiday production team to produce holiday-related video content.
Manages the production and ideally provides some in-house editing of Contact Chai podcast series and the weekly Morning Scroll podcast.
Identifies influencers to partner with and help expand our national engagement.
Who We're Looking For:
3 - 5 years of professional communications experience.
Demonstrates a mastery of learning an organization’s unique voice. Ability to develop nuanced communications in collaboration with Director of Communications and the Founder/Senior Rabbi.
Strong copy editing and content management skills in developing weekly e-communications.
Understanding of graphic design, brand, and helps to maintain consistency across all platforms.
Advanced knowledge of social media and commitment to learning new trends and analytics.
Basic video editing skills. Podcasting production skills are not required, but a plus.
Ability to work across team to source content including Jewish educational resources
Knowledge of Jewish practice and the Chicagoland Jewish landscape a plus.
