Temple Shaaray Tefila is at an exciting time in the life of our congregation as we embark on new plans to increase membership and grow our footprint. Temple Shaaray Tefila is a 600+ member unit Reform synagogue on the Upper East Side of New York City under the leadership of Senior Rabbi Joel Mosbacher and a talented team of professionals. The Communications Manager is an integral part of the Synagogue’s team and is responsible for helping to create and implement a marketing and communications strategy in support of our warm and welcoming culture, worship opportunities, educational offerings, programming, fundraising strategies and our overall mission.
This position will report to the Executive Director and will offer the right professional the opportunity to make a significant impact on our organization with responsibility to recommend and guide strategy for all communications, including all written and digital marketing material. This position will work closely with all arms of the synagogue as the communication partner on a variety of strategic initiatives. This individual will be an ambassador for the organization with the goal to advance the organization’s relationship with congregants and in the broader community.
In partnership with senior leadership, set strategy for all messaging
Work closely with senior leadership (professional and lay) to develop and maintain consistent messaging regarding Temple’s mission, goals and significant plans.
Manage institutional communications:
Coordinate and draft regular newsletters (print and electronic), event invites and marketing materials for all departments
In conjunction with all departments, promote Temple events through both traditional and emerging online platforms;
Develop marketing/membership materials (e.g., brochures);
Provide editorial support for all departments while ensuring brand consistency.
Manage relationships and contracts with outside vendors
Creating relationships with local media outlets
Work with a wide range of media
Utilize graphic design software
Think creatively to develop new design concepts, graphics and layouts
Manage website by developing, maintaining, and overseeing content generation
Design, edit, and produce content for quarterly printed newsletter and weekly electronic newsletter.
Board/Lay leadership Interactions:
Serve as staff liaison on all communications issues
Write, edit, and maintain content for social media platforms, specifically Facebook and Instagram
Ensure that all platforms have a consistent message
Approve posts for all platforms before they go live
Ensure social media content supports organizational programs and other community events
Report metrics of social media efforts
Effectively communicate cross departmentally with marketing, programming, creative services and graphic design to build and meet timelines
3 to 5 years’ experience in marketing or public relations, preferably for a nonprofit or religious institution
High level of familiarity with web-based marketing systems such as MailChimp or Constant Contact, and e
High level of familiarity with WordPress, ShulCloud preferred
PC or Mac proficient
Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite or other graphic design software
Skilled at collaborating with lay leaders and fellow staff members
Acute attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects at once
Proven ability to meet deadlines with consistently strong results
Work on High Holy Days and Occasional Shabbat Services
