What is the Position? We are looking for a full-time educator (August 2021- July 2022), to carry out administrative tasks, teach in our religious school, co- facilitate family programming, and engage with our teens through dynamic and innovative programs in our thriving synagogue community!
Who are we? We are a friendly, vibrant congregation with an active, engaged membership. The only synagogue in Scarsdale affiliated with the Conservative movement, we warmly welcome Jews of all backgrounds, levels of observance, and sexual orientation. Our smaller size fosters an intimacy not found in larger shuls. Our families are looking for their teens to grapple with Jewish texts, ask big questions, and participate in meaningful Jewish experiences that blend their Jewish and secular lives.
What are the Responsibilities?
Contribute to the educational vision and direction of the school
Serve as a thought partner among Senior Staff in engaging with youth and families
Coordinate, design, and develop with educational team specific curriculum for grades taught
Teach twice per week in our Religious School program
Plan and implement Shabbat programming, in collaboration with the educational team, which can include Shabbatonim, Kabbalat Shabbat, and Havdalah programs, and other experiential Shabbat experiences.
Serve as the leader of Shabbat programming 1-2 times per month
Collaborate on designing and facilitating B’nai Mitzvah workshops for students and parents
Teen Program Responsibilities:
Engage and develop relationships with our teens in Gesher, our monthly experiential learning program
Cultivate personal relationships with our teens
Develop engaging curricula for Gesher programming
Plan and manage all logistics
Manage all marketing, publicity, and outreach for programs
Mentor Gesher board and leaders in programming
Manage and facilitate a monthly social teen program
Supervise youth group events on-site and in the community
Promote attendance at regional and national USY events
Collaborate with Education Director and staff on design and implementation of intergenerational holiday celebrations and programming (most events are intertwined with Religious School hours)
High Holiday Services
Yom Hazikaron, Yom Ha’atzmaut
Shavuot 1-2 service days per year
Manage marketing, publicity, and outreach for programs
Develop strong, ongoing relationships with families
Attendance at weekly staff meetings
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Jewish Studies or a related field.
Knowledge, comfort, and experience in Jewish Education including Hebrew expertise, familiarity with Jewish history, holidays and texts.
Camp experience preferred
Previous teaching experience (classroom or experiential) preferred.
Effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to foresee/analyze educational/administrative challenges and to develop solutions.
