Gabriel Project Mumbai (GPM) is an NGO working with local communities in India, using a holistic approach to community development in order to address root causes of poverty. Through a grassroots approach, we work with underserved populations to create comprehensive programs that tackle the most pressing issues affecting the community on a daily basis. Our staff in India is comprised of members of the local communities in which we work.
Founded in 2012, GPM believes in the integration of quality education, accessible healthcare, good nutrition, and sustainable livelihoods (UN Sustainable Development Goals #2, 3, 4 and 8). We work with historically marginalized communities in both urban and rural settings to shift the existing paradigm of extreme poverty and to transform vulnerable communities into thriving ones. Our goal is to invest in and support ambitious and socially minded local individuals to lead their community development initiatives through our programs.
After nine years of operation, GPM is on the cusp of a coordinated growth and expansion. With the help of dedicated staff and passionate volunteer leadership, this expansion requires an equally passionate Development Manager to maintain and expand our sources of revenue.
The organization raises funds internationally, mainly from individual donors, family foundations, and grantmaking organizations. Because GPM’s work takes place in India, its Founding Director (chief professional officer) lives in Israel, and its Board is based in the U.S., the successful candidate will need to be comfortable juggling schedules and priorities.
This is a half-time position (20 hours per week) and will report to the Founding Director.
Responsibilities: In consultation with staff and Board members, implement and coordinate an ambitious fundraising strategy.
Maintain strong working relationships with GPM’s portfolio of existing donors and partner organizations.
Identify, assess and develop new fundraising opportunities and relationships among institutional and individual donors, in order to diversify and increase revenue streams.
Develop and submit high-quality funding applications to individual and institutional donors, including identifying budgeted activities that can be packaged as projects.
Follow up approaches and check on progress to ensure funding applications are fully considered by donors, ensuring that relevant data is provided as required.
Prepare and submit compelling donor progress reports (narrative and financial), as well as any monitoring and evaluation requirements, in accordance with donor criteria and deadlines.
Work closely with Founding Director to prepare him for donor meetings, as appropriate.
Work with interns and other staff supporting the fundraising efforts.
Qualifications: Experience developing, managing and implementing an effective fundraising strategy and associated work plans
Experience crafting persuasive and imaginative fundraising proposals for presentation to institutional donors
Experience producing funding progress reports and project budgets
Knowledge of donor priorities and requirements; the ability to analyze reasons for success or failure of funding requests; and the capacity to take corrective action when necessary to improve grant applications
History of building and developing strong working relationships and contacts with funders
Knowledge of research sources to identify potential new donors
Experience raising funds from individual donors, through methods such as online giving, phone calls, direct mail, and/or face-to-face solicitations
Ability to tell GPM’s story to a variety of audiences, including student volunteers, individual donors, family foundations, and grantmaking organizations
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong communication skills, including the ability to write and speak persuasively
College degree strongly preferred
