Executive Director

Principal Responsibilities:
Our Center is searching for an Executive Director ("ED"). The ED will be responsible for the management of the Center's operations, focus on fundraising, oversee the expansion of programs and services that meet the needs of the Jewish Community in the San Fernando Valley, and will continue to cultivate relationships with partner organizations.
Valley JCC ("VJCC") has four paid staff and a preschool director who reports directly to the Executive Director. The preschool teachers, teachers' aides, and custodial staff report directly to the director of the preschool. The Center also enjoys the services of dozens of volunteers.
The Executive Director ("ED") of VJCC is the principal advocate for the organization's mission and values and, in conjunction with the Board of Directors ("Board"), is a partner in building the organization and sustaining its vision. The ED will focus on fundraising, grant writing, and cultivating major donors.
Our ideal candidate is someone involved in the Jewish community with experience as a leader in a non-profit organization. The candidate should be comfortable working with internal and external partners of diverse backgrounds. The applicant must be able to demonstrate an ability and success in fundraising, cultivating donors, grant writing, program development, financial management, collaboration, volunteer management and team building.
Position Requirements:
Manage VJCC
• Create and maintain a safe, healthy, positive and collaborative work environment
• Establish and manage all office related matters
• Provide financial oversight and manage the organization's budget
• Manage an efficient organizational structure
• Recruit and manage volunteers as required
• Maintain and enhance social media presence
• Ensure compliance with all local, State and Federal laws
Employee Management
• Ensure staff knowledge of employment policies, and provide leadership and clear modeling of the organization's policies and values at all times
• Conduct personnel searches to fill approved openings; hire, counsel and dismiss employees per established policies and regulations
• Provide and support professional development for all employees
Development and Fundraising
• Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including donor events and programs, sponsorships and grant opportunities
• Assist the Board in maintaining a working Development Committee tasked with fundraising and donor development
Community Relations
• Create and maintain relationships with other community organizations, both Jewish and non-Jewish, religious and secular
• Serve as the principal liaison with other community organizations and key constituent groups
• Serve as the point of contact for community and media communications
• Work collaboratively with other community organizations on joint projects and emergency response
• Continually evaluate VJCC program relevance and suggest changes to the Program Director
• Oversee all programs to ensure objectives are met
• Attend and participate in community wide events and programs sponsored by VJCC with the understanding that many will be evening and weekend meetings and/or events
Partner with the Board of Directors
• Co-lead and participate in strategic planning process as it serves VJCC's mission, representing and involving staff as appropriate
• Work with the President to plan meeting agendas
• Provide reports etc. for Board and Committee meetings as required
• Work with the President to engage and develop new and existing Board members
• Work with the Treasurer to prepare and monitor the annual budget
• Insure adequate insurance coverage for VJCC and its Board
• Attend and participate in Board and committee meetings as requested
• Provide the Board with adequate information to help it reach sound decisions and establish effective policies
• Implement all policies approved by the Board understanding that many will be evening and weekend meetings and/or events
• Present the ED's report at monthly Board meetings

Minimum Qualifications:
Personal Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
• Proven leadership and management experience working in the nonprofit sector required
• General knowledge and understanding of Jewish culture, practices and traditions
• Working knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management, including accounting and budgeting
• Demonstrated grant writing and fundraising skills, including knowledge of and participation in individual donor and corporate development
• Strong written and oral communication skills required
• Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook required
• Desired skills & experience:
o Knowledge of relevant employment laws and management best practices
o Proficiency with commonly-used social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram
o Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, motivate and manage Board of Directors, committees, and volunteers with the ability to cultivate existing relationships and develop new ones
o Demonstrated experience in teambuilding
o Experience in community building
