Cantor/Cantorial Soloist

FULL TIME CANTOR OR CANTORIAL SOLOIST
We are Congregation Micah, a URJ-affiliated Reform Synagogue in Nashville, and we are seeking a passionate cantor or cantorial soloist. This person will oversee the musical portion of all lifecycle events and programming that explores and celebrates Jewish life within our active, vibrant, and inclusive community of approximately 500 member families. Nashville is known as Music City and music is a hallmark of our Congregation. We look forward to our next cantor or cantorial soloist building on top of this foundation and working with our Rabbis, a married team sharing the rabbinical role for our congregation.
Required Skills:
• Knowledge of Reform Jewish liturgy, ability to lead and perform the related musical repertoire with an emphasis on contemporary melodies and command of the more traditional
• Inspiring vocal ability and excellent musical skills
• Collaboration with other musicians and vocalists
• Enthusiasm for teaching/singing with young children
• Effective communication skills to encourage and foster participation from both adults and children
• Is organized, creative, and works cooperatively with our Rabbis, Education Director, temple staff, lay
leaders and volunteers
• Pastoral skills to support congregation members and families
• Basic technical skills with audio/video equipment (microphones, sound board, recording of music
videos as needed, equipment inventory, etc.)
• Ability to lead services on online platforms if needed
Responsibilities:
• Officiating at services and events with our Rabbis
• Tutoring B’nai Mitzvah students weekly
• Direct, rehearse, and perform with our volunteer High Holy Days choir, Kids/Teen choirs, and our
volunteer Shabbat band
• Hire, coordinate, and rehearse with occasional musical guests
• Coordinate audio/visual elements including sound set up, use of sound engineers, slide preparation
with Rabbis for services, and preparation of new music as requested or when appropriate
• Lead services at request of Rabbis
• Participate in weekly staff meetings in person or by phone
• Participate in Jewish community events and collaborations including interfaith services and events in
the community at large at the request of the Rabbis
• Participate in religious school services, high school programming, and youth group events
• Other duties as needed

• Shabbat services (Friday night and Saturday morning)
• High Holy Days and Festivals – in conjunction with High Holy Day Choir director and Music
Librarian
• B’nai Mitzvah
• Lifecycle events including weddings, funerals, and other Jewish holidays, including Shivah
minyans and unveilings at the Rabbis request
Education
• Friday morning Tot Shabbat
• Sunday morning religious school services, including music classes for Pre-K thru 3rd grade
• Preparation/rehearsal for Consecration and Confirmation ceremonies
• Rehearsals with Kids/Teen Choir (special events) and volunteer Shabbat band (weekly)
B’nai Mitzvah
• Tutor B’nai mitzvah students (shared with Education Director)
• Sing/Perform as requested at B’nai Mitzvah services with musical accompanists
Salary/Benefits: Full time salaried position (based on education/experience) with health insurance, benefits, and paid time off.
